No County Livingston Street Address 6274 East Avon Lima Road City Avon State NY Zip Code 14414 Duties Description The primary duty of this position is serving the public by answering the regional wildlife hot-line number, handling wildlife related walk-in visits from the public, and corresponding with the public via email. This position is essentially the first contact many members of the public have with the Bureau of Wildlife and the incumbent would be trained to have broad knowledge about the wildlife program. Much of the work is responding to public inquiries by providing technical advice, answering wildlife and hunting related questions, and providing information about public access to DEC lands. This position will also have responsibilities related to maintaining the regional wildlife conflicts database, issuing nuisance wildlife permits and tags, and maintaining maps of the permitted properties in a GIS layer. This position will also assist with collecting and preparing wildlife mortality specimens for shipment to the Wildlife Health Unit. This position will also collect biological data from wildlife harvested by hunters and trappers that are brought to the office (e.g., deer, bear, furbearers).Other duties will include spending at least one day a week participating in wildlife field work (e.g., conducting wildlife surveys, assisting with banding efforts, performing habitat management). Minimum Qualifications 30 semester credit hours, including 12 semester credit hours in fisheries, marine resources or wildlife management; mariculture; marine biology; aquaculture; aquatic, marine or terrestrial ecology; zoology; marine technology; botany; limnology; hydrology; or oceanography.Preferred Qualifications: Strong communication skills, ability to work well with others, and a willingness to learn. Additional Comments This is a seasonal, hourly appointment with an anticipated end date of 11/30/2025. Program needs and funding will determine actual termination date. Must have a valid driver’s license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position.Must be able to negotiate difficult terrain.Must be able to work in remote areas.Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions.
