Summary This position is located within Commander Navy Region Southeast, Fleet and Family Reediness Program, Fleet Readiness Division, Morale, Welfare & Recreation, Sport, Fitness & Aquatics Division, Naval Base Nas Whiting Field. The primary purpose of this position is to repair and maintain fitness and recreational equipment located within Naval Base Whiting Field area or Responsibility. Responsibilities Fitness Equipment Maintenance Installs, troubleshoots, diagnoses problems, calibrates, tests and maintain fitness equipment for all fitness centers within Naval Base Kitsap's area of responsibility, such as treadmills, elliptical machines, cycles, and cabled strength training equipment. Utilizes manufacturer manuals and instructions. Repairs pads, pulleys and various belts. Replaces electrical and mechanical parts when cost effective to do so. Coordinates higher level repairs and maintenance when repair is beyond scope of capabilities. Establishes and maintains a preventive maintenance schedule and fitness equipment repair schedule. Ensures that manufacturer's recommended maintenance schedule is followed. Ensures that preventative maintenance on equipment is performed within budg1:lt and according to manufacturer's specifications and recommendations. Maintains instructions, standard operating procedures, forms and other written information to insure the safe operation of fitness equipment, tools and machinery. To include, OSH, HAZMAT and manufacturers recommended repair timelines and procedures. Manages an equipment inventory matrix to ensure all equipment is tracked and in proper working order. Disposes of unserviceable equipment through proper channels. Records monthly mileage information required of cardio equipment. Utilizes a computer and various software to complete administrative duties related to the position (i.e. tracking equipment/parts inventory, expense, e-mail, etc.) Maintains an inventory of hand and power tools used for repair of fitness equipment. Ensures that all maintenance equipment and tools are maintained in good working order or removed from the workshop. Maintains an inventory of frequently usEid hazardous material and or waste products to include but not limited to: used oils, waxes, solvents, detergents, degreasers, paints etc. Ensures workshop is clean and organized. Ensures strict 100% compliance with all instructions regarding HAZMAT and OSH. Notifies supervisor of any HAZMAT or OSH deficiencies. Determines and reports necessary supplies in order to properly maintain equipment. Maintains an inventory of spare parts in anticipation of problem areas, thus eliminating unnecessary down time of fitness equipment. Provides input/technical advice when management is considering the procurement of new equipment. Schedules service seminars with vendors related to equipment repair and maintenance for the training of self and fitness personnel. Qualifying experience must have been equivalent to the next lower level in the normal line of progression. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: The standard is to maintain the equipment at full performance level. Must have a minimum of two years of experience in equipment maintenance and repair or one year of specialized experience in fitness equipment repair. Must demonstrate ability to read and comprehend manuals and instructions used in the repair of equipment. Knowledge and ability to evaluate, troubleshoot, analyze and pinpoint maintenance problems on fitness equipment and then perform the tasks required to correct the problem. Must be able to obtain fitness equipment repair certification within 6 months of accepting the position which can be obtained on-the-job through manufacturer training workshops. Knowledge of record keeping related to preventative maintenance and inventory control. Must possess a thorough knowledge of tools and equipment required in the maintenance and repair of equipment. Proficient in the use of a hand and power tools. Knowledge of Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) and Hazardous Waste Management (HAZMAT) principles, procedures and policies to ensure compliance with laws, regulations and policies related to those areas. Must possess basic computer skills and become proficient with computers and job-related software. Minimum requirements: Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook. Must have good math skills and ability to perform cash handling with high degree of accuracy. Knowledge of policies and procedures regarding procurement, control and disposition of property. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Facilitate briefings and training sessions for staff and management on basic equipment maintenance. Must have excellent customer service skills for dealing with patrons and co-workers. Current certification in first aid and cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR). Ability to obtain subject certification within 90 days of reporting to the job. Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience.
