Fitness Specialist I


  

The Fitness Specialist I, under the direction of the Fitness Center Manager, works with members of all ages to assist them in achieving their fitness goals

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

These duties and responsibilities described below represent the general tasks performed on a daily basis; other tasks may be assigned.

Administrative Operations: Enforce company policies and procedures Perform daily operations of the facility Provide reports to supervisor Ensure proper documentation and implementation of all risk management issues Communication: Build strong relationships with staff members through communication Express ideas clearly through verbal and written communication Present well thought-out ideas in a professional manner Planning: Complete tasks and responsibilities and prioritize workload Establish goals and objectives specific to program needs Establish timelines and gauge progress towards goal accomplishment Provide effective design, delivery, and evaluation of programs Problem Solving / Decision Making: Analyze and resolve problems with consideration of possible outcomes Develop alternatives and search for resources and solutions Make decisions based on desired outcomes Customer Service: Build a rapport with members Meet member needs and maintain a high level of satisfaction Provide superior customer service to all members Interact with other departments to maintain a good working relationship Client Interaction and Supervision: Cultivate a positive exercise environment for participants Be readily available to answer questions and provide feedback Know possible contraindicated exercises for both high and low risk members Organization: Coordinate and prioritize responsibilities and projects Manage workspace Maintain the cleanliness of all fitness equipment Follow and record the opening and closing procedures Exercise Orientation and Programming: Identify risk factors for all members Know screening guidelines Understand the basic principles involved in muscular strength, endurance, flexibility, and cardiovascular development Customize a program to meet a member’s needs Demonstrate a safe program on the exercise equipment Provide specific exercise programming to high risk and special population clients, suggesting alternative exercise options Fitness Evaluation: Conduct a safe and effective fitness assessment including cardiovascular, strength, flexibility, and body composition Evaluate and interpret fitness assessment results Identify high risk clients and special populations Group Exercise Instruction: Conduct safe and effective group exercise classes Observe and correct contraindications to exercise Modify class according to different fitness levels Keep current with new trends and styles for group exercise instruction

Education and Experience

Minimum Required Education: Bachelors Degree in Recreational Therapy or Exercise Science

Experience: One (1) or more years’ experience as a Personal Trainer

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Applicant must be NCSA, ACE, and/or AFAA certified
