Fixed Assets Lead Accountant

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Fixed Assets Accounting team is responsible for the overall MPLX PP&E accounting, including capital project tracking and investing assets. It’s a fast-paced group that supports many critical business partners. The Fixed Assets Lead applies experience, logic, and analytical skills to resolve complex transactions and inquiries. The ideal candidate is highly organized and has strong decision making skills. The position reports to the Fixed Assets Manager and will be based in Findlay.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Accountable for all aspects of PP&E accounting including the monthly closing cycle, internal and external customer service and management reporting. 

Ensures transactions are recorded, documented, and reviewed in accordance with GAAP and company policies.

Reviews and approves AFEs, monthly account reconciliations, and project analysis.

Provides guidance and direction to Accountants in carrying out their day-to-day job responsibilities.

Identifies and helps implement process improvements.

Ensures critical SOX controls are executed.

Understands the full range of the accounting system including Nvision, SAP project and fixed asset subledgers, and the general ledger to ensure transactions are recorded properly to achieve desired financial reporting result

Collaborates with business partners to resolve inquiries.

Addresses internal and external audit inquiries.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor’s degree or advanced degree in Accounting

Minimum of 5 years of professional accounting experience required

2 recent years of Subledger experience is required

SAP or large ERP experience is preferred

Advanced understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP)

Knowledge of accounting cycle from construction in process to fixed assets.

SKILLS:

Ability to work under high pressure & in a fast-paced environment

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

Effective interpersonal and leadership skills

Proficient in use of Excel and an aptitude to effectively learn company-specific accounting/reporting systems

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Flexible to work extra hours during peak periods
