Fixture Design Engineer
Job Title: Fixture Design Engineer Job Description We are seeking a Fixture Design Engineer to support an Automotive OEM Fabrication department. The role involves working in CATIA V5/V6 to design and model fixtures used for holding vehicle parts during processes such as welding, painting, assembly, and testing. The candidate will understand body part construction, datums, and weld information to incorporate into fixture design. Responsibilities include performing layout checks, exporting 3D/2D data, outsourcing to suppliers, and researching ways to improve fixturing or processes. Additionally, the engineer will support requests for fixturing, test equipment, or prototyping needs, and assist development groups such as Interior Design and Aerodynamic teams. Responsibilities + Design and model fixtures using CATIA V5/V6 for vehicle part processes. + Understand body part construction, datums, and weld information for fixture design. + Perform layout checks to ensure fixtures meet all requirements. + Export 3D/2D data and outsource to suppliers for quotes and ordering. + Research and implement improvements in fixturing or processes. + Support requests for fixturing, test equipment, or prototyping needs. + Assist development groups such as Interior Design and Aerodynamic teams by creating evaluation models and designing wind tunnel test models. Essential Skills + Advanced operation of CATIA V5/V6. + Proficiency in Solidworks. + High attention to detail. + Excellent communication skills. + Strong problem-solving skills. + Knowledge of vehicle construction and assembly. + Proficiency in Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing. + Basic electrical and mechanical skills. + Proficiency with Microsoft Office software (Teams, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, Word). Additional Skills & Qualifications + BS degree in science or engineering preferred, or equivalent experience. + Minimum of 3 years of related design work experience. + Experience in sheet metal and fixture design. + Fabrication skills Work Environment The role operates within an R&D prototype environment, providing a long-term opportunity with potential for growth and development.
