Position OverviewThe ideal Traffic Safety Flagger would be dedicated to safety and have keen observation skills to monitor the flow of traffic around utility construction sites. The Flagger responsibilities include informing motorists of possible detour routes, reporting disobedient drivers to law enforcement officials, and answering motorists’ questions. The Flagger would also be the point of contact and direct emergency vehicles safely through construction zones as required. In this position you must possess excellent communication skills in order to work effectively as part of a team. Ultimately, the best Traffic Safety Flagger demonstrates sound knowledge of company, state, and federal traffic regulations and compliance.
Job Duties Using accurate hand signals and strategically placing direction signs to direct traffic safely around or through utility construction sites Effectively communicating with other flaggers using hand-held devices to direct two-way traffic safely. Proactively informing the construction crew of any traffic issues that may affect their safety. Actively sets up barricades and traffic cones along construction work sites to establish “work zones” Coordinated removal of all signs, barricades, and traffic cones upon completion of construction work Assist the utility construction crew in the removal of rubble, debris, and hazardous materials. Record and document the license plate numbers of all motorist who neglect to obey traffic signs and or verbal directions Qualifications High school diploma or GED Valid driver's license with MVR report meeting all DRG guidelines Certified or ability to be certified through the American Traffic Safety Services Association (ATSSA). Proven experience working as a Flagger Sound knowledge and understanding of state traffic regulations The ability to stand for extended periods of time Ability to work as part of a team This is an outdoor position and you will work in types of weather conditions Excellent organization skills with a heightened awareness to your surroundings Effective communication skills Provide leadership support and solve problems as they occur.
