Position Summary
Reporting to the Track Manager, the Track Protection & Winter Operations Supervisor will comply with all regulatory, operational, safety, company, and customer specific policies and procedures. Responsible for managing and directing multiple workers to deliver a successful project by meeting or exceeding safety goals, quality standards, production rates, schedule and customer satisfaction. Track Protection & Winter Operations. Supervisor provides direct support for maintenance, construction, and third party projects by planning, scheduling, monitoring, auditing, supplying track protection employees as well as aligning and scheduling resources to protect and clear designated locations during winter operations. In addition, he/she will have a proven record of delivering successful projects by meeting or exceeding safety goals, quality standards, production rates, schedule, and continuously achieving results with extreme customer satisfaction. Based out of the Ottawa Region, will oversee all track protection services both in the Ottawa Region as well as the Chatham-Windsor Region, as required.
Primary / Essential Responsibilities and Duties:
Embrace PNR safety culture, adhering to industry and company policies and procedures while continuously providing themselves, fellow employees, and the general public a safe working environment. Directly oversees the process of Track Protection Requests and services in various forms on a daily basis. E.g., TOP, Rule 842, Rule 841, and Safety Watch. Directly oversees the Winter Operation and scheduling as it pertains to provide track protection for contract specific platforms and snow clearing at Ottawa Station. Review project contracts and documents and plan work to ensure that the work is carried out in accordance with the contract documents. Provide reports as required to the Management team. Responsible interacting with customers to establish their track protection needs, provides recommendations, and supports internal and external stakeholders. Responsible for the scheduling and shift planning of all track protection employees including to time entry monitoring, approvals, and accurate coding. Builds and maintains relationships with Clients. Assists Track Department in Business Development and supporting functions. Responsible for employee performance as related to company goals, safety audits, administration of company policies and procedures. Investigates track protection incidents and violations, safety issues, and renders corrective actions in a timely manner. Perform a variety of related administrative task such as production reports, time collection, equipment logs, inspection reports, extra work records, reviews cost reports with team members, and other related project-based responsibilities. Able to appreciate time sensitive duties, plan and execute accurately to achieve daily goals and production in a safe manner according to industry standards. Demonstrated leadership qualities and abilities; applies innovative and effective management techniques to maximize employee performance.
Required Qualifications
Completion of grade twelve (12) or equivalent. Three (3) years’ experience as a Protecting Foreman or experience providing Track Protection services. Exceptional analytical, planning, problem solving and organizational skills. Ability to multi-task, prioritize and work to deadlines. Ability to build relationships and work effectively with a team. Self-motivated, innovative, committed and honest. Strong computer skills. Must have a valid driver’s license. Effective verbal and written communication skills and presentation skills. Strong client relations, influencing skills and organizational skills.
Physical Requirements
Work in office and outdoor environments and may be exposed to harsh weather conditions including very hot and very cold weather. Works around moving machines, vehicles, and equipment. Frequently stands, walks, climbs, balances, stoops, and crouches while negotiating work areas under construction and maintenance. Exposed to loud noise. Exposure to live track/trains and high voltage.
