FLEET / EQUIPMENT MANAGER

General Summary of the Position:

The Fleet Manager is responsible for planning, directing, managing, coordinating, and supervising the programs for acquisition, assignment, utilization, maintenance, repair, replacement and disposal of fleet vehicles and large equipment. Fleet manager also serves as the primary contact between fleet and operations. Maintains and grows positive, customer-centric relationships within and outside the organization. Remains a key business partner within the operation.

Major Functions of the Job

Procurement, assignment, and maintenance of vehicles/large equipment Ensure that the company has the right number (and type) of vehicles and large equipment to satisfy contract requirements, and that the vehicles/equipment work properly and safely while maintaining financial responsibility for company. The position will purchase, or lease vehicles and equipment based on specific transportation requirements (such as load capacity and mileage), budget requirements and then schedule regular maintenance throughout the lifecycle of the vehicle to ensure driver safety of fleet performance over time. The position will oversee registration, licensing, and compliance aspects of fleet and large equipment company wide as well as driver management. Position will partner with HR and Safety to ensure compliance of eligible and non-eligible drivers and/or unsafe drivers. Oversee efficiency of Fuel Management Program. Fleet Manager will oversee and analyze operations with the aim of improving processes and increasing the overall efficiency of the fleet and large equipment

 

Minor Functions of the Job

Purchasing and maintaining vehicles/large equipment according to contract requirements and balancing company budget. Deciding whether to lease or buy vehicles. Assisting in the recruitment of quality drivers into the fleet. Oversee registering and licensing all vehicles/equipment under their management. Finding ways to cut costs and maximize profits. Developing strategies for greater fuel efficiency. Maintaining detailed records of vehicle servicing and inspection. Complying with U.S. Department of Transport laws and regulations. Scheduling regular vehicle maintenance to ensure operational efficiency. Ensuring strict servicing and maintenance times to minimize downtime and maintain schedules. Assist in the development, deployment and monitoring of driver behavior programs. Analyzing data to increase business operational efficiency. Utilizing GPS systems to monitor drivers and track vehicles.

 

Physical Requirements and Environmental Factors

Will ascend/descend vehicles & large equipment to perform job duties. Ability to work safely in a wide range of environmental and weather conditions (i.e., work in hot, cold, or wet conditions). Ability to stand and/or sit for minimum 4 hours per day Ability to drive and/or fly (travel) minimum two times per month throughout the United States (Colorado, Texas, Virginia, Maryland, etc.) and between major cities throughout Florida. Will involve frequent bending, moving, lifting, and carrying material weighing up to fifty pounds. Ability to work in all weather conditions Exposure to high noise levels that always require proper personal protective equipment while on job site(s).

 

Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree and/or equivalent experience Experience as a mechanic preferred Five - ten (5-10) years of advanced highway or construction experience Experience in creating and establishing fleet policies and procedures, from vehicle assignment to replacement cycling, from personal use to accident reporting Experience in price, spec, and purchase or lease vehicles Understand and track total cost. Strong budgetary experience and negotiating skills Detailed understanding of financial statements and how to manage them Creative and innovative collaborator with a positive attitude and strong work ethic Detailed industry knowledge of highway maintenance and/or of the surface transportation field (design and construction) Proven ability to have a planned and systematic approach to time management, project management, and problem solving Strong communication skills, oral and written skills Strong presentation skills and ability to communicate a message in a clear and precise way Ability to manage conflict resolution in a professional manner Strong HR skills and with genuine interest in the development and success of our employees Fanatical customer service and client focused. Total commitment to the company and passion for career Understanding of field operations and applicable standards and specifications Knowledge of local driving rules and regulations Knowledge and ability to adapt to the latest technology Ability to adjust to changing work schedule

Work Requirements

Jorgensen operates a 24 hour/7 day a week operation. Work schedules will vary by workload, client requests, location, and emergency conditions. All employees are expected to work various schedules and at times assist with emergency situations and perform on call activities as assigned.
