Exercises no supervision. Work Location 329 S Frio St. Work Hours 7:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., Monday - Friday Shifts are subject to change based off departmental needs. May change to 1:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m. or 6:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.; Monday - Friday. Essential Job Functions + Performs preventative maintenance on vehicles and heavy equipment. + Inspects, diagnoses, and locates mechanical problems on vehicles, small, large, and heavy equipment. + Repairs automobiles, light and heavy trucks, gasoline engines, and other automotive equipment, and may require frequently lifting/carrying up to 25 pounds. + Installs and repairs batteries, lights, alternators, regulators, and starters. + Adjusts and repairs clutches and brakes and replaces shocks, struts, and springs. + Operates engine test equipment, air wrenches, and hand tools, operating basic mechanic tools and equipment. + Performs repairs on electrical heating and cooling systems. + Test drives automobiles, trucks, and equipment. + Replaces broken or defective windows on cars and trucks. + Makes road calls to repair problems. + Utilizes proper safety precautions and procedures related to work performed. + Prepares vehicles for State inspection. + Performs related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required. Job Requirements + High school diploma or GED equivalent (recognized by the Texas Education Agency or a regional accrediting agency). + One (1) year of experience in automotive repair. + Valid Class "C" Texas Driver's License OR valid driver's license from another state with the ability to obtain a valid Class "C" Texas Driver's License within 30 days of becoming a Texas resident. Preferred Qualifications + Experience working in a auto shop with repair experience + ASE certification + Welding experience + Knowledge of tools and equipment used for tire replacements and repairs + Knowledge of wheel balancing procedures. + Ability to remove, repair and replace tires on automobiles, trucks, and heavy equipment.
