Position SummaryThe Heavy Equipment Fleet Manager will oversee the maintenance and repair governance the Heavy Equipment Rental Fleet. This role involves prioritizing, tracking, and monitoring maintenance, repairs, and preventive maintenance activities. Collaborating with Service Teams across the state, the manager will develop and maintain reporting metrics to evaluate branch store and rental fleet performance. The successful candidate will work closely with the HE Rental Manager to drive performance improvements and control costs, and to report on total maintenance spend and return-to-ready cycle times.Position Duties/ResponsibilitiesPrimary Responsibilities:· Develop and implement work processes and procedures for all shops concerning the maintenance and repair of MacAllister-owned fleets, considering the future purpose, sale, rental, or rollout of the machines.· Develop and implement a preventive maintenance program to ensure all equipment is well-maintained and operating at peak performance. Coordinate repairs, service schedules, and inspections to reduce equipment downtime.· Establish and maintain reporting metrics to measure shop performance, return-to-ready processes, and maintenance and repair costs; take corrective actions as necessary to correct metrics.· Monitor heavy equipment fleet health and utilization in VisionLink and other in-house data-driven programs to assist with maintenance plans and prevent unnecessary costly repairs.· Provide direction to a team of dedicated field technicians, Field Service, and Service shops for fleet repairs or maintenance, acting as the single point of contact for setting repair priorities, defining scopes of work, offering technical assistance, and addressing any questions.· Review and monitor the opening and closing of work orders against inventories to ensure accurate and efficient repairs for the Heavy Rental fleet.· Analyze service issues related to fleet maintenance, perform root cause analysis, recommend corrective actions, and escalate issues as necessary to ensure timely resolution.· Assess customer rental damages, oversee quoting and repair of damages, and ensure fair billing for the customer.· Prepare and submit monthly reports on repairs and upgrades to equipment that should be capitalized.· Review, monitor, and assist with warranty processes, collaborating closely with CAT district representatives, management, and the MacAllister warranty department to ensure accuracy and identify areas for process improvement.· Assist Rental Coordinators with technical recommendations for rental machines and attachments.· Assist the Rental Manager in developing and maintaining ownership and operating cost metrics for the maintenance and repairs of the rental fleet, as well as in formulating model-specific rental strategies.· Evaluate equipment performance and recommend modifications and/or alternate models/vendors based on maintenance/costing information.· Foster strong working relationships with Caterpillar and their field representatives, as well as Sales, Product Support, and Product Development teams, to support the development, marketing, and delivery of service products aligned with MFC's overall goals.· Facilitate the movement of equipment between branches and Field Service, ensuring proper inspections and delivery of equipment in ready condition.· Develop and maintain relationships with third-party vendors to schedule and oversee 24/7 service work as needed (e.g., tire suppliers).Occasional / Other Responsibilities:· May be required to be on call to facilitate after-hours breakdown repairs of equipment.· Conducts yard audits.· Assists the Rental Fleet Dispatcher in resolving transportation-related issues and complaints.· Occasionally visits customers and job sites.· May involve infrequent overnight travel for periodic meetings with various MacAllister Machinery in Indiana or Michigan locations (less than 5%).Supervisory Responsibilities:· No formal responsibility for supervising othersPosition RequirementsRequired:· High School Diploma or GED equivalent· Associate’s degree, technical school certification, or equivalent hands-on experience in a related field· Minimum 5 years’ experience in a shop operations role which includes a strong understanding of shop operationsPreferred:· Bachelor’s Degree preferred· 2 years of experience in Fleet Management, with a focus on heavy construction equipment· Six Sigma training (Green Belt)· Experience in a Caterpillar equipment shopKnowledge, Skills, And AbilitiesThe requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
