Summary:

Vighter is recruiting healthcare professionals (HCPs) to conduct basic screening assessments and provide healthcare services to individuals detained by Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the Immigration and Customs Enforcement teams during on-ground assessments and during deportation flight missions. HCPs work administratively under the Program Manager and Regional Deputy Program Manager while performing healthcare services under the medical direction of the National Medical Director and Physician Supervisors who collaborate with Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Healthcare is delivered in accordance with approved medical protocols and in compliance with Department of Homeland Security (DHS) directives.

Vighter’s HCPs work alongside uniformed DHS and ICE at numerous locations in Texas, Arizona, California, and Louisiana. The medical staff must be capable of providing health care services for persons of all ages, to include infants, children, adults, and pregnant females. Candidates must be comfortable working in detention and flight settings. Services may be provided in a field setting with minimal facilities, a soft-sided (tent-type) facility, or a secure detention facility, such as a DHS/ICE Station or outpost collocated with international airports in sector. Education, Licensure/Certification & Experience:

Must have a minimum of one year of experience in direct patient care and licensed/certified as a Registered Nurse (RN). Qualifying experience includes detention or correctional healthcare, residential healthcare, a hospital, outpatient clinic, nursing home, or other supervised medical, nursing, or patient care facility that provided direct patient and or critical care. Successful completion of a US-based accredited Registered Nurse training program leading to licensure/certification as a Registered Nurse (RN). The degree issuing institution and/or program must be accredited by an entity recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. Must have a current, active, valid, unencumbered license/registration/certification to practice healthcare in the state in which the candidate will work. License/registration/certification must not have been withheld, suspended, revoked, denied, surrendered, or lapsed due to an investigation. Must possess a current valid Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from one of the following approved organizations: American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for health care providers, AHA Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification, American Red Cross CPB/BLS for the professional rescuer, American Safety and Health Institute (ASHI) CPR and AED for healthcare providers and professional responders. Application of medical principles, clinical procedures, and techniques. Alertness and skill in providing care and reacting to emergency situations. Basic safety, infection control, quality assurance, records management, statistical information gathering, etc. Experience in a detention/correctional and/or pediatric setting is highly preferred Bilingual in English and Spanish is highly preferred, but not required.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

Provide in-flight nursing services to DHS/ICE detainees being repatriated to their countries of origin or other asylum locations in Central and South America. Collect and administer approved medications in accordance with doctor’s prescribed orders. Review patient information while ensuring compliance with established protocols for the transportation of detainees by air. Provide medical/nursing services during flight operations. Provide patient education on health maintenance and disease prevention; and documents patient care accurately and timely in compliance with Vighter and regulatory standards. Anticipates and acquires resources needed for routine and unexpected medical incidents, including medical emergencies in flight. Proper judgment is required to prevent delays in service provision, avoid serious adverse impact on the health status of individuals and the population served, and reduce waste efforts and resources. Judgmental failure could seriously affect the health status of one or more individuals Responsible for performing a variety of unusual and complex professional tasks without the benefit of close guidance. Independently establishes criteria, formulates approaches, and evaluates efforts Assumes responsibility as the sole medical provider of care for Federal detainees with stable, unstable, and complex medical conditions, and independently implements and monitors a comprehensive plan to meet the actual and anticipated medical needs of detainee (client) and aircraft crew under the supervision of the RN Site Lead and RN Project Manager. Demonstrate sensitivity to cultural diversity, race, gender, and other individual differences in the workforce, in the detainee population, and in the Community. Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient care delivery. Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Duty Hours / On-call Requirements:

Generally speaking, Flights are scheduled a minimum of one week out. Show time to the flight line is a minimum of 60-90 minutes prior to wheels up (mission dependent, show times will be published by Site Lead personnel. Generally, most flights leave early morning and return to the U.S. the same day. However, there are times when maintenance, refueling, or weather may cause paid delays at home or abroad. Flights canceled are non-compensable to flight nurses or crews. We strive to give as much notice as possible in the event of a flight delay or cancelation Position has availabilities to work day, evening and night shifts. Availability during weekends and holidays is a possibility. Advanced notice will be provided for scheduling purposes. We try our best to accommodate your schedule, so please inform Vighter of your desired schedule limitations in advance. All Flight Nurses start as part time and work to full time selection by the site leads and Project Manager.

Travel:

This is an onsite position with the expectation of continuous travel. Work will be conducted at detention facilities and on air assets while in flight. Frequent travel by air to international locations will be a routine part of the job. Must possess a valid U.S. passport.

Qualifications:

Must be able to walk, stand, bend, and/or sit for more than 8 hours per day. Must be able to perform BLS/CPR if necessary and assist patients into/out of a wheelchair. Must be able to perform duties in a stressful and often austere environment without physical limitations. Must be able to use an elevator or walk up and down stairs. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and carry up to 10 feet. Must be able to routinely grasp or handle objects, use finger dexterity, bend elbows/knees and reach above and below shoulders. Must be able to read and interpret handwritten and typewritten print. Must be able to communicate by voice and detect sound by ear. Must be willing to work day, night, weekdays, weekends, holidays, and overtime if necessary. Must be able to perform duties in an indoor and/or outdoor environment. Must be able to pass a criminal background investigation. Candidate must not have been convicted of, pled guilty to, pled nolo contender to, or received probation prior to judgement for any crime other than a minor traffic violation, the record of which has not been expunged. Must undergo Urine Drug Screening (UDS).
