This role is part of the In-Space Systems business unit at Blue Origin, a world-class company that is revolutionizing space exploration. We are seeking a Senior Flight Software Manager to own the leadership and development of a fast-paced team of software engineers on the upcoming Blue Ring uncrewed spacecraft. This is both a technical role, where development and testing of embedded systems is expected, and managerial, with duties such as interviewing, hiring, and training your team. You will be expected to coordinate with peers, respectfully challenge decisions when you disagree, set clear prioritized goals, model ownership to your team, and hold them accountable while removing roadblocks and providing coaching, so they can successfully deliver high quality mission critical software.
In this role you will directly manage 7 – 12 software engineers, owning all aspects of the development and internal delivery of a specific portion of the capability roadmap. You will be responsible for ensuring the software meets stakeholder needs while adhering to our reliability and quality standards. Building the team by attracting and developing the best talent is needed to ensure success, Effective technical leadership with a focus on personal ownership and continuous improvement will be crucial.
Software development experience in complex, multi-system, embedded avionics is desired not required. Our main goal is to find thoughtful and capable engineers who are internally motivated. They should enjoy solving difficult challenges and take proactive approaches. They should also be open to taking measured risks to meet our customers' needs. Qualifications:B.S. degree or equivalent in computer, aerospace, electrical engineering, or related field
7+ years of total experience in software development projects, including 3+ years of experience with embedded software, BSP or kernel drivers.
3+ years of experience managing software teams.
C/C++ and Python experience.
Experience with agile software development and DevOps practices.
Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
Outstanding organizational and time management skills
Critical thinker with innovative problem-solving skills
Self-starter with a strategic and creative mentality
Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and strengthen our culture of inclusion
Active or ability to obtain a security clearance required.
Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
Desired:10+ years of software development experience for real-time embedded systems.
Ability to manage multiple, concurrent product baselines (product line engineering)
Experience working on multi-component, complex avionics for spacecraft, aircraft, of similar systems.
Experience working all phases of complex embedded system development and operations, including proposals, system definition, design, production, integration, verification, on-orbit checkout, mission operations, and anomaly resolution.
Experience working with NPR 7150.2, DO-178, or other safety/mission-critical standards.
Understanding of spacecraft operations, subsystem functions, and their interfaces and common interactions
Experience with Embedded Linux or equivalent real time operating systems.
Active active security clearance preferred.

Compensation Range for:
WA applicants is $187,266.00-$262,172.40Other site ranges may differ
