Join our dynamic team as a Mohs
Technician, where you'll play a crucial role under the guidance of the
Dermatology Director and Mohs Surgeon. Your expertise will extend to the use of
special stains and immunohistochemistry, ensuring a thorough understanding of
skin cancer cell identification, especially in melanoma cases. You will
maintain a safe lab environment according to OSHA standards, using meticulous
preparation, labeling, and storage of slides. Be prepared to contribute to a
collaborative team, work independently, and adhere to hospital and university
policies while maintaining the highest standards of quality and efficiency.
Your dedication will be pivotal in shaping a cutting-edge approach to
dermatological care.
You will interact with faculty,
residents and clinical staff to solve any problems regarding worklists and
other orders. Time and type of assignments may vary upon department guidelines.
You will be required to work at multiple sites, be able to trouble shoot when
necessary and contribute to the goals of a team environment.
Travel to other locations as needed
Salary Range: $25.62 -$33.84/hourly
Qualifications
Required:
+ Graduation from college with a major in an applicable natural science; or two years of college courses in the natural sciences plus two years of applicable experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
+ BLS from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
+ At least 6 months Mohs Tissue Technician laboratory experience.
+ Good organizational skills are needed to maintain work flow
+ Knowledge of CLIA laboratory protocol
+ Knowledge of methods for operating laboratory equipment
+ Knowledge of laboratory safety standards
+ Knowledge of CAP and JCAHO standards
+ Skills in accurate computer data entry in laboratory information systems.
+ Ability to maintain all block logs
+ Print grossing sheets and labels for slides
+ Perform routine staining procedures including but not limited to operating and maintaining slide staining.
+ Embed and cut tissue and place on the slide for staining.
+ Stain and cover slip slides for physician review.
+ Prepare for Mohs surgery by setting up cryostat, staining station, and supplies.
+ Follow specimen protocols and procedures within required timeframes for embedding frozen surgical specimens.
+ Maintain, document and troubleshoot equipment, reagents, temperature logs and/or other supplies.
+ File surgical reports, photographs and slide
+ Ability to communicate with mutual respect and consideration for diversity among individuals.
+ Performs other duties and tasks as requested by the supervisor
+ Ability to establish and maintain a cooperative working relationship with faculty, supervisors, peers, and customers/suppliers and patients.
+ Ability to work as a team member
+ Skill and ability to train and assess technical performance in the Mohs technician/Mohs laboratory
+ Ability to adapt to changes in the work schedule when the required.
+ Ability to work under pressure.
+ Ability to communicate effectively in the English language through written and oral communication methods.
+ Ability to read technical documents, policies, procedures and other materials related to work.
+ Skill in setting priorities, which accurately reflect the relative importance of job responsibilities.
+ Ability to organize work and records with attention to detail, accuracy and thoroughness
+ Skill in working independently and following through on assignments with minimal supervision.
+ Ability to learn, retain and apply new information related to the job.
+ Ability to facilitate and adapt to change.
+ Ability to recognize the needs of own area of responsibility as well as the laboratory as a whole.
+ Manual dexterity to perform technical duties/tasks.
+ Ability to stand for extended periods of time
+ Ability to work with frequents interruptions.
+ Ability to maintain a neat, clean, organized work area.
+ Knowledge to know whether a poor stain can be 'corrected." Knowledge and ability to do a variation of special stains, including Toluidine Blue
+ Ability to be punctual and maintain a satisfactory attendance record.
+ Knowledge of infection control, ergonomic, chemical waste, and glove fit regulations and all other General Safety procedures.
