Job Description
The Float Phlebotomist will perform various tasks including blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data, decontamination, and updating patient information. The role involves collecting and storing specimens according to established procedures, and clearly explaining the process of venipuncture and other specimen collections to patients.
ResponsibilitiesPerform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, record maintenance data, and decontaminate equipment.Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.Explain the process of venipuncture and other specimen collections clearly and courteously to patients.Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.Fully understand all physicians' orders.Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders.Check all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy.Package specimens for transport and store specimen samples at the required temperature.Place samples in appropriate collection containers/tubes and accurately label them.Follow different procedures as outlined by specific protocols.Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.Essential SkillsPhlebotomyVenipunctureSpecimen collectionBlood drawCustomer service skills2+ years of experience in specimen processingExperience with butterfly needlesPhlebotomy certificationData entryExperience with pediatric and geriatric patientsProficiency with Microsoft Office SuiteAdditional Skills & Qualifications2+ years of experienceHigh School Diploma or equivalent requiredValid Phlebotomy certification preferredWork Environment
The Phlebotomist II will support three IOP locations in Cookeville, Sparta, and McMinnville, with schedules made in advance. There is potential to travel to Murfreesboro and Mt. Juliet as well. Mileage expenses will be covered when floating. The work schedule is Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $19.00 - $21.00
