Flock Service Representative

The Flock Service Representative provides supervision and support for assigned Contract Turkey growers. Provides good husbandry practice for assigned farms and continually strives to provide the best quality/least cost production.

\r\n

Essential Functions, Duties & Responsibilities:

\r\n\r\nInforms and advises manager of status and performance of flocks. Maintains accurate records of flock mortality, performance, and medications. \r\nDetermines most efficient means of producing high quality and least cost turkeys on contract grower farms.\r\nEnsures grower compliance with Butterball LLC’s Best Management Practices and Animal Care & Well-Being Programs.\r\nDiagnose and treat diseases in accordance with quide-lines set forth by Corporate Veterinarian and Grow-Out Manager of Butterball LLC.\r\nProvides follow-up and ensures the disease treatments are administered properly and determines their effectiveness.\r\nMaintains constant contact with contract growers in order to address concerns and policies between Butterball and the contract growers.\r\nReviews and explains all flock settlements with contract growers and identifies opportunities for improvement.\r\nSets and strives to attain goals consistent with the Corporate and Carthage Complex objectives.\r\nImplements and evaluates field projects as assigned by Grow-Out Manager.\r\n\r\n

Additional Responsibilities:

\r\n\r\n Constructively participates in the Service Department’s Weekly production meetings.\r\nAssist Grow-Out Manager in projecting weekly performance estimates and cost savings projects.\r\nCompletes special projects as assigned by supervisor.\r\nEnsures safety and well being of Butterball employees through safety meetings, safety training, safety documentation and continually striving for zero accidents.\r\nAttend seminars and industry meetings to acquire a current knowledge of turkey husbandry practices.\r\n\r\n

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

\r\n\r\nThorough knowledge of the processes, diseases, and medications of live turkey operations\r\nAbility to communicate verbally and in writing with growers and other Butterball associates\r\nWorking knowledge of common word processing and spreadsheet software\r\n\r\n

Physical Requirements:

\r\n\r\nLift, handle, load, and unload supplies and materials up to 50 pounds\r\nManeuver on foot onto and through farms:\r\n\r\nThrough flocks of turkeys that may exceed 50 pounds in weight\r\nWill include walking on outside surfaces that may be slippery due to inclement weather\r\nTurkey houses with uneven litter surfaces, which may also be slippery\r\nClimb/descend steps entering/exiting turkey houses, stepping over feedline equipment\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

\r\n\r\nPhysically handling turkeys up to approximately 50 pounds for examination, inspection, blood collection, etc.\r\nOperation of company vehicle traveling to and from farms to conduct business\r\n\r\n

Education & Experience: 

\r\n\r\nHigh school diploma required\r\nBachelor's degree in Poultry Science or Animal Science strongly preferred\r\n2 or more years of relevant experience required (without Bachelor's degree)\r\n\r\n
