We are hiring up to two (2) Full Time, Permanent and two (2) Full Time, Temporary (up to 11 months) Flood Prevention Technologists position working out of our Aurum site in Edmonton, AB.
The Flood Prevention Technologist is accountable for assessing flood risk of residential, multi-family, institutional, commercial and industrial (ICI) properties including the administration of backwater valve subsidies and stormwater rebates.

What you’d be responsible for
As the Flood Prevention Technologist you will be reporting to the Manager, Emergency Response & Flood Prevention. Key accountabilities for the role include, but are not limited to:
Independently complete a technical evaluation / assessment / inspection of flood risk of residential, multi-family, institutional, commercial and industrial properties to determine the flood mitigation components and best practices a customer can incorporate to reduce the flood risk of their property Inspection elements include:Inspection scheduling: inspections are booked through use of an online booking system (residential) or by communication with property owners via phone call or email (multi-family, ICI). Technologists are scheduled based on inspection type and route planning.Pre-inspection planning: review of property information through various databases and information collected from the customerOutside Assessment: overland drainage of property; landscaping; driveways, walkways, and patios; grading at foundation; eaves troughs and downspouts; foundation; windows; doors; exterior water sources, low impact development (LID) features including rain barrels, permeable pavers, rain gardens, etc.Inside Assessment: sewer and storm laterals, floor drain; backwater valve; foundation drain (weeping tile); sump pit and pump; exposed foundation walls, floors and cold rooms; finished walls and floors; windows; plumbing fixtures; additional risk of water damage; mold and mildew growth; hazardous materials storage, etc.Post-inspection reporting: generate a comprehensive report following each completed inspection and provide educational material, technical advice and support to customersSupport the execution of subsidies and rebates offered to customers by EPCOR. Technologists educate property owners and assess properties for eligibility and approval of subsidies and rebates, including both a desktop review of provided documentation from the property owner as well as a field assessment (on premise inspection).Ensure the delivery of optimal results against appropriate performance metrics. This can include customer and stakeholder responsiveness, or inspection and LID project targets.Provide data, technical feedback and assessment of components of the Program to the Manager, Emergency Response and Flood Prevention, including program content development, historical data review for input into future program planning, regular progress reports and future work plans.Collaborate with fellow Technologists, Managers and Administrative staff on program elements including:Providing process review and suggesting improvements to ensure collaboration with other teams and programs within EPCOR.Work in partnership with other employees as required on projects involving multiple stakeholders.Accountable to the public and our customers including:Meeting customer expectations and providing timely and responsive serviceAppropriate management of escalated customers and follow up with all involved parties to ensure the customer is satisfied with the response.Participate in customer and/or public engagement activities, such as project information sessions and community events, as required.
What’s required to be successful
Qualifications, experience and behaviours you will possess are:
Education:
Completion of 2-year technical Diploma from a recognized post-secondary educational institute (preference goes to any of the following: survey and geospatial; landscape architect; environmental / civil; advanced plumbing; disaster and emergency management)Experience that includes:
4+ years in one or more of the following:Flood mitigation and prevention services as it pertains to flood risk reduction in a residential and /or urban environment. Lot grading / surveying including maintenance of detailed field notes and record keeping.Customer service experience including: completion of residential appointments, providing public education on technical issues, and resolving escalations .Utility experience with a focus on stormwater management including LID design, construction, operation or maintenance.Site or facility management and building construction services with a focus on residential, institutional, commercial and industrial facilities.Sewer servicing of residential or commercial plumbing related to both wastewater and stormwater collection systems.Emergency management, including mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery.Knowledge of surveying / lot grading processes including comprehension of detailed site drawings related to overland drainageWorking knowledge of City of Edmonton Drainage Bylaw 18093Knowledge of LID types, plant species selection, design and benefits including drought management and watershed protectionProficient with DRAINS, GeoFIT, Oracle, IVARA, GIS systems, Microsoft Teams, and Microsoft Office SuiteStrong interpersonal, analytical, report writing, and communication skillsStrong customer service skills and ability to interact effectively with the publicValid Class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operators LicenseAbility to qualify for and maintain an EPCOR driver's permit.A Driver Abstract (5yr. Commercial type) may be requiredLimited to 6 demerits or less.
Note that candidates that do not meet the 4 years of experience may be considered for a Developmental Level appointment with at least 2 years related experience

Final Wage and Step will be determined at the time of selection and based on a combination of factors as outlined in the Collective Agreement.Hours of work: 80 hours bi-weekly
