Job Purpose

Support Engineering and New Product Development along with daily process improvement activities and shop support.

 

Duties and responsibilities

Ability to operate and understand functions of all machinery and setup procedures in machining department.Perform skilled duties in layout, setup, and operation of several types of equipment to perform a wide variety of operations in a diversified line of close tolerance work.Check setup and parts for conformity to specifications. Proofs programs on all new jobs, coordinated engineering changes, work out sequences and methods, establishes production standards on all new jobs, instructs others when required.Set-up turning equipment to perform any operation completely and independently within full machining capacity. Recognizes improper machine functioning or cutting action of tools and makes proper machine adjustments for correction of problems. Use a wide variety of precision measuring instruments.Perform root cause corrective action. Disposition of MRB for review by Engineering and / or Quality.Create rework instructions. Assist machinists with rework. Perform rework as needed.Perform set-ups and operations within a high degree of quality and efficiency.Troubleshoot process deviations; prove processes and modify processes as needed.Serve as back-up machinist as needed.Develop and insure process stability and repeatability between equipment and operators.Perform other related duties in the department as directed by Engineering.

 

Qualifications

Requires use of job knowledge acquired over a period of 2 years or more of on-the-job training or equivalent to set-up and operate all Machined Shop equipment.Must be a current Level 3 machinist. Will need to be able to complete the items listed in the Level 4 Observational Rater. Must have machining experience equivalent to a multi-axis CNC Machine Machinist.Must read & interpret complex blueprints, sketches & process sheets and use a wide variety of precision measuring instruments.Must have knowledge of shop mathematics.Requires considerable judgment in setting-up and operating all Machine Shop equipment.Requires making decisions involving ingenuity and initiative, the ability to recognize erratic and un-programmed machine performance.
