Food Pantry Assistant
Union County College is a public comprehensive community college providing quality, affordable, accessible educational programs that serve the greater Union County region. It is the oldest of New Jerseys 19 Associate Degree Colleges, serving both career-minded and transfer-oriented students since 1933. The College enrolls almost 30,000 credit, non-credit and continuing education students and is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education. Many programs lead to the Associate in Arts, Science and Applied Science degrees. Campus: All General Description: Responsible for assisting in the coordination and daily operations of the UCNJ campus food pantries. This position assists in providing staff support for the pantry, maintaining inventory for all campus pantries, assisting with donation pick up and inventory shopping trips, distributing and stocking donations/supplies and maintaining the pantry standards and guidelines. The Pantry Assistant will additionally support all food insecurity and pantry sponsored programming. Characteristics, Duties and Responsibilities: • Assist with the daily operation of the food pantry locations on the Cranford, Plainfield and Elizabeth campuses. • Responsible for checking students in and out for each visit based on established pantry guidelines. • Assist and support any students that visit the pantry. • Assists in enforcing food pantry policies and procedures. • Oversees the upkeep of the food pantry ensuring safety and cleanliness. • Assist the Coordinator in providing direction and task oversight support to campus pantry student workers. • Assist in training and onboarding of campus pantry student workers. • Assist with the regular unloading, stocking and storing of food deliveries and donations. • Assist in the facilitation of pickup of food donations and orders. • Assist in the sorting and distribution of inventory between campus pantries. • Manage the food pantry inventory and report supply concerns to the Coordinator as needed. • Assist in the management of produce distribution programs such as “Hoot’s Fresh Fruit Stand” and “Farmer’s Markets” on the Cranford, Elizabeth and Plainfield campuses. • Assist in supporting food insecurity and wellness programs and initiatives including but not limited to free lunch giveaway programs, wellness themed workshops hosted on the Plainfield, Elizabeth and Cranford campuses. Education Requirements: Associates Degree required. Experience: Prior food service and/or customer service experience is preferred. Competencies and Skills Required: Prior food service and/or customer service experience is preferred. Physical Demands and Work Environment: • This position’s duties are normally performed in a typical interior/residence work environment, based on the activity scheduled. • Some physical effort required; however, the employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. • No or very limited exposure to physical risk. • Some travel required.
