Food Safety and Quality TechnicianJob Description

This Technician, will play a crucial role in monitoring, supporting, and ensuring the compliance of food safety and quality requirements daily. You will lead by example in Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and work cohesively as part of a team to drive improvements in food safety and quality. This role requires a willingness to step out of your comfort zone, take on new challenges, and learn new things.

Shift: Monday through Friday 1pm-9:30pm and occasional Saturdays

ResponsibilitiesEnsure both food safety and quality of the products and processes regularly.Perform physical inspection and analytical testing for food safety and quality, including checks for color, pH, seal integrity, temperature, date code, X-ray monitoring, weight, label accuracy, allergen presence, and cleanliness.Document all food safety and quality checks as required.Ensure all stakeholders follow Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), good housekeeping, and company policies and procedures.Perform hold and release of products after thorough review and assessment for food safety and quality, following hold and release procedures.Provide feedback and guidance for corrective actions when non-conformance issues are found.Perform pre-operation inspection of line equipment and processing environment at the start of shift or during line changeovers, including environment testing such as ATP and allergen tests.Collect retain samples from the production line and perform product evaluation at the end of product shelf life.Properly calibrate laboratory equipment by set frequency and maintain recordkeeping.Take appropriate actions to correct deviations or notify FSQ manager.Act as a key monitor for reinforcing GMPs throughout plant and warehouse facilities.Perform direct GMP observations of the facility and processing conditions during production, address discrepancies, and follow up for corrective actions.Reinforce GMPs during operation hours and lead by example.Perform GMP inspections of facility areas and communicate findings and actions taken to address them.Reinforce policies, procedures, and controls to ensure compliance with FDA, USDA, third-party audit requirements, and internal standards.Actively support the preparation of all third-party audits and customer audits.Follow documented protocols and audit food safety and quality records documented by operators.Seek ways to improve internal processes, documentation, and knowledge transfer.Maintain laboratory and work areas organized.Identify opportunities to improve current methods and processes and make recommendations to FSQ Manager.Demonstrate adaptability by reacting appropriately to unexpected changes in situations.Seek to develop technical knowledge through learning from peers and consistently look for self-improvement opportunities.Perform other duties as assigned, including acting as backup for FSQ lead and team members in their absence, assisting in new hire and refresher trainings, participating in mock-recalls and product withdrawal sessions, and assisting in special in-plant or lab projects as directed.Essential SkillsKnowledge of food science, GMP, and microbiology.Ability to perform physical inspections and analytical testing for food safety and quality.Proficiency in documenting food safety and quality checks.Capability to perform pre-operation inspections and environment testing.Skill in calibrating laboratory equipment and maintaining records.Competence in reinforcing GMPs and compliance with FDA, USDA, and third-party audit requirements.Aptitude for seeking process improvements and knowledge transfer.Additional Skills & QualificationsAbility to lift and carry up to 30 pounds.Ability to stand or sit for extended periods.Ability to perform repetitive tasks with hands and arms.Ability to use laboratory equipment and instruments.Work EnvironmentThe Technician will primarily work in a food lab/kitchen environment, which may involve exposure to hazardous chemicals and materials. The technician must follow safety protocols and wear appropriate personal protective equipment.The shift is from 1pm to 9:30pm, with flexibility required to cover weekend shifts as needed. Scheduled workdays are Monday to Friday, with Saturdays dependent on production needs.The work environment includes varying temperatures from 5 to 90 degrees Fahrenheit, high noise levels, and potential exposure to dangerous machinery and equipment.The technician must be able to bend, stoop, pull, lift up to 50 lbs, and stand for long periods.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $27.00 - $27.00
