Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Foreman to lead and supervise our excavating crew on various projects. The Foreman will be responsible for ensuring that projects are completed in a timely and high-quality manner, maintaining jobsite safety, and managing daily operations. This role demands strong leadership, independent thinking, and the ability to work collaboratively with team members and other departments.

ResponsibilitiesReview all projects for potential safety hazards and create a plan to handle all hazards and complete all work safely.Review all details of the contract and discuss with the estimator to ensure full understanding of the scope of work and customer expectations.Ensure all truck operators and crew members have proper licenses, site-specific training, and directions to the job site.Upon arrival at the job site, review for potential safety hazards, verify marker utilities, and field measure to confirm the exact scope of work.Set up traffic control and signage according to job requirements.Conduct daily toolbox talks with the crew and ensure all employees are wearing required personal protective equipment.Set goals for daily production and plan for efficient use of materials.Supervise employees to ensure the highest standards of construction and successful project completion.Monitor work, correct errors, provide guidance, promote teamwork, and provide employee training.Report all accidents, damage, and incidents immediately to the executive superintendent and Human Resources.Complete daily job reports and staple all relevant paperwork and receipts.Ensure all extra work orders are approved and documented.Maintain a clean job site, removing unnecessary materials daily.Review completed projects with the estimator to ensure all contractual obligations are fulfilled.Provide technical guidance to crew members.Rotate on snowplowing duties and operate equipment as needed for project completion.Verify that all employees have correctly filled out their time cards.Handle daily grievances between foreman and crew members, escalating to the executive superintendent if necessary.Ensure fire extinguishers and first aid kits are in all vehicles and equipment.Prepare for the next day's job by pre-loading equipment and fueling vehicles.Build and maintain a good reputation with customers and clients.Ensure all equipment is inspected for mechanical safety problems daily and cleaned off each day.Maintain an active inventory of all tools and supplies, keeping them in orderly fashion and working order.Discuss project completion with the client to ensure satisfaction and fulfillment of contract obligations.Essential Skills5+ years of experience in the construction industry, preferably in excavating and/or civil construction.5+ years of experience running heavy equipment.5+ years of supervisory experience.Ability to read blueprints and check elevations.Understanding of basic math and measurements.Demonstrated ability to operate heavy equipment and power tools.Additional Skills & QualificationsStrong problem-solving skills and ability to think independently.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.Why Work Here?

Work Environment

The work environment may be noisy and occasionally outdoors, subject to various weather conditions including heat, cold, precipitation, and exposure to direct sunlight. The role involves working roughly 10-12 hours a day, Monday to Friday, with the potential to report directly to the shop in Freeport or drive straight to the site if living nearby.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $40.00
