The University of Miami/UHealth has an exciting opportunity for a full time Forensic Toxicologist in the Pathology Department.
SUMMARY
Researches the effects of toxic chemicals on living things and the environment. Individual will perform analyses on body tissues and fluids to determine the presence of toxic material in specimens received in the toxicology laboratory.
CORE JOB FUNCTIONS
Conducts research on toxic effects of products.
Tests and analyzes samples for presence of toxic conditions using microscope and laboratory equipment.
Complies, analyzes, and interprets data.
Maintains records and prepares reports and correspondence.
Reviews scientific literature and remains abreast of technical developments.
Prepares scientific reports and articles.
Prepares information necessary for legal action against dischargers of toxic substances where damage has or may occur.
Appears in hearing and court cases as an expert witness on the effects of toxic substances.
Analyzes and performs examinations on evidence to detect and quantify drugs, narcotics, poisons, or other controlled substances using chemical techniques.
Performs housekeeping tasks including maintaining laboratory supplies and reference materials.
Assists in the inventory, maintenance, storage, and disposition of evidence.
Performs basic maintenance on gas and liquid chromatography instrumentation.
Supports efforts to summarize toxicological literature.
Enters data into databases and prepares reports on observed and recorded effects.
Uses state-of-the-art chemical and biomedical instrumentation.
Serves as liaison to the courts and other external agencies by providing expert witness testimony.
Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

Education:
Bachelor’s degree in relevant field required
Experience:
Minimum 3 years of relevant experience

Skill in collecting, organizing, and analyzing data.
Ability to recognize, analyze, and solve a variety of problems.
Ability to exercise sound judgment in making critical decisions.
