Forensic X-Ray Technician I (per diem)
Job Description The Office of Chief Medical Examiner investigates cases of persons who die within New York City from criminal violence, by accident, by suicide, suddenly when in apparent health, when unattended by a physician, in a correctional facility or in any suspicious or unusual manner or where an application is made pursuant to law for a permit to cremate a body of a person. The core values of CARES guide our work for communities and inform our behavior toward each other and all those we serve. - Commitment: Dedicated to the mission at all times - Accountability: Responsible to each other and the community - Resilience: Adapt in the face of adversity - Excellence: Achieve and maintain the highest quality - Service: Innovate to meet evolving needs Under direct supervision, selected candidate will be responsible for but not limited to the following: -Prepares and positions decedent to take forensic x-ray pictures according to standard procedures or as prescribed by the Pathologist in-charge. -OCME is acquiring 3 new PMCT scanners, in each of the borough offices, resulting in expansion of the current duties and workflows of the existing staff. The PMCT scanners are scheduled to go live in all 3 Forensic Pathology Centers (FPC) by the fall of 2024. OCME X-Ray Technicians will need to develop skillsets to manage this new technology. -Perform a warm-up series on the PMCT to ease the x-ray tube into operation. -Perform a Phantom scanning series and recording results into the permanent service record -Undergo a specialized training to develop competency in operating PMCT equipment, in addition to the skills required to perform conventional digital radiography. -Learns protocols and implements trainings for both technology systems. -Adjusts x-ray equipment and operates controls to obtain correct exposure. -Maintains required records. -Operates, maintains and adjusts equipment. -Cleaning apparatus, gantry and tables as necessary. -Other duties as assigned. Qualifications A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent, and a valid license as a General Radiological Technologist issued by the State of New York. This license must be maintained for the duration of employment in this title. NOTES: 1. For appointment to Assignment Level III, in addition to meeting the above requirement, all candidates must have two years of satisfactory, full-time experience as an X-Ray Technician, which must have been in a supervisory capacity. 2. For assignment to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner only, one year of satisfactory full-time experience operating X-Ray apparatus and auxiliary equipment may be substituted for the above-cited license.
