Statement of the job The University of Maine at Fort Kent (UMFK) seeks to employ an Assistant/Associate Professor or an Instructor of Forest Management. This is a 9-month, full-time tenure-track position that includes expectations for scholarship and service. Teaching responsibilities include 12-credit hours of forest management and biology courses in both fall and spring terms. Course assignments will be determined based on the successful candidate’s skillset, but may include dendrology, forest management, advanced silviculture/mensuration, and/or chainsaw operations. In addition to course development and delivery, responsibilities may include participation in the continued development of Associate’s, Bachelor’s, and Master’s level degree programming in forest management. The successful candidate will also be expected to develop scholarships appropriate to the field of forest management, especially research that engages undergraduate students. The successful candidate will also contribute to the program, unit, division, and university functions. The successful candidate will be expected to work in a highly interdisciplinary and collaborative environment across departments and University of Maine campuses while maintaining the highest standards in the classroom. Course delivery is primarily in person with an emphasis on field based learning, though the faculty may explore online or flipped-classroom delivery of some courses or course content. A commitment to quality undergraduate teaching to diverse populations is required. Successful applicants will be required to make a successful progression towards tenure. Other duties may be assigned. This academic year position is expected to begin in August 2025. Starting salary is $48,078 for Instructor level, $57,806 for Assistant Professor, and $65,912 for Associate Professor level, based on the qualifications and experience of the successful applicant. Required Qualifications: + Master’s degree in forest management or a closely related field for Instructor level (note: Instructor should be promoted within four years to a higher rank in order to be considered for tenure) + Highest degree traditional to discipline for Assistant/Associate Professor level (Ph.D.). + Excellent oral and written communication skills and demonstrated ability to communicate with diverse students and staff. + Demonstrable interest in teaching using multiple modalities and mentoring undergraduate students. + Practical experience in forest management or field-based forestry research Preferred Qualifications: + Three to five years of college-level teaching experience In addition to the required qualifications, preferred qualifications include at least three years of relevant forest management field experience. A non-forestry terminal degree in a discipline other than forest management may be considered if the candidate has a clearly demonstrated knowledge of and field experience in forest management.
