What You'll Do Erect the structural framework for high rise buildings, bridges, power plants and towers Place reinforcing steel in concrete forms for roadways, foundations and structures Welding, rigging and machinery moving Use information from a variety of sources in order to select proper materials and the needed amounts for a project Use details from written plans and instructions from supervisors in order to securely bolt metal structures together Transport heavy metal pieces from the ground level to a higher location using tools like cranes or working with other team members to help position pieces correctly Ensure proper placement, balance and alignment of structural pieces by using levels, laser tools or plumb bobs Transform metal pieces into functional elements by cutting materials and using fabrication techniques What You'll Need Minimum 1 year working with heavy industrial environment experience preferred but not required Communicate effectively – oral and written Possess a strong work ethic and practice safe working habits Must be able to lift 50 pounds, climb ladders and steps Must be able to work overtime, either planned or unplanned for emergency situations Must be able to read technical documents and service manuals Must be able and willing to cross train as required Must be able to work outside under all weather conditions to include working in the heat and cold weather Stand for long periods of time Perform the rigorous manual labor required by the trade and have a natural ability to work at high elevations Have a good sense of balance Follow the proper OSHA regulations Your Education High School Diploma or GED preferred Completion of an apprenticeship program from the local union hall
