Accountabilities:

The Formulator and Lab Supervisor will lead strategic projects and a team of technicians, focused on the innovation of refrigeration and industrial compressor lubricants. Key responsibilities include conducting fundamental research and product development as well as managing daily laboratory operations and test coordination between laboratory personnel. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills and technical expertise, with a proven ability to plan and execute projects and align with customer and business needs. Additionally, this role entails ensuring compliance with laboratory safety, quality, occupational health, and environmental standards

 Responsibilities:

Provide technical support to commercial teams through product development efforts and customer directed research programs Design, execute and record product development of new refrigeration and industrial lubricants Ability to interpret analytic data from a variety of techniques (NMR, IR, GC, etc) for additive and base oil identification Perform independent research in a multidisciplinary environment on refrigeration and industrial compressor lubricant challenges Actively participate in project review meetings for refrigeration and industrial lubricant projects Provide technical support to sales, customers, and stakeholders as needed Initiate and organize laboratory work to meet objectives, timeline and budget Participate in industry conferences and symposiums as required Develop an understanding of intellectual property landscape and track pertinent literature Ability to maintain an accurate clear legal record of experimental results and provide written summaries and interpretation of results Interpret and communicate performance testing results to internal stakeholders and customers Build relationships with global commercial and technical teams Anticipate, determine, an understand customer needs and market trends and apply product technologies to satisfy those requirements. Understand and comply with all applicable internal corporate and external health, safety, and environmental policies, act consistently with corporate standards of integrity Provide ownership of laboratory HSES to ensure local HSES regulations and codes are met as well as corporate HSES requirements. Establish HSES management and operating procedures, ensure solid implementation in the lab Organize to formulate and approve the implementation of HSES training plan in the lab Supervise and inspect the safety works, eliminate the hidden danger of lab activities Drive Continuous Improvement to achieve HSES metrics target as listed below Zero recordable injury incidents Zero reportable environmental release Zero occupational hazard incidents Zero significant security and cybersecurity incidents

 

Skills, Experience, and Qualifications:

 

Ph.D. in Chemistry preferred and at least 5 years of experience in lubricants (refrigeration lubricants preferred) and lubricant additives; M.S. in Chemistry required and at least 10 years of experience in lubricants (refrigeration lubricants preferred). Knowledge of refrigeration lubricant formulations and refrigeration lubricant technologies through laboratory experience Strong leadership capability, able to provide instructions, coaching and feedback to team

members, lead the team to achieve desired results

Experience in chemical synthesis Experience in synthesis of lubricant basestocks, thickeners or additives Experience with HVAC system OEM and/or key raw material suppliers Knowledge and experience of tribology and tribological testing Knowledge of thermodynamic modeling of gas/liquid refrigeration systems Knowledge of phase behavior, equations of state and their practical application Excellent decision-making, problem solving skills and the ability to interpret and translate experimental results into customer needs Ability to work independently and cooperatively in a multidisciplinary environment Strong organizational, interpersonal, written and oral communication skills Fluent in English both written and verbal May require frequent domestic and international travel Requires use of appropriate PPE, Personal Protective Equipment, to fulfill safety requirements
