Free People is seeking a Temporary Senior Intimates Designer responsible for creating seasonal foundations, including cut-and-sew soft bras, underwire bras, and undies, as well as seamless bras and undies. The Senior Designer will focus on designing a seasonal line plan, driving development direction, and identifying trends to introduce newness while protecting core business needs within our private label and market products.

This is a 3 month TEMP opportunity (Mat leave cover) with a target start in March/April 2025.  This role requires the ability to be in person at our home office 3-5 days per week.  Interested candidates who live outside of a commutable distance can be offered financial assistance to make themselves local for the duration of this opportunity.

Role Responsibilities

 

Develop seasonal products with a focus on style, fit, and fabric, while identifying key trends in bras and undies to drive newness and grow the foundations business.Collaborate and communicate with key partners throughout the design process, including the Global Head of Design, Product Development, and market vendors, to source and develop materials for upcoming assortments and support new ideas within foundations.Present impactful seasonal design presentations to Design and Merchandising Leads, focusing on key trends and fabrications aligned with the Global Head of Design's vision. Execute the vision using detailed Illustrator sketches and AI visualizations.Collaborate with the Print and Color team on seasonal print and color direction, creating CAD colorways to explore color multiplication opportunities.Create detailed tech packs with a focus on construction, drape, and finishing techniques to ensure first prototypes meet brand expectations. Update and maintain BOMs in Tradestone for private label products, and communicate approvals in Excel for market production to ensure prototype and bulk accuracy.Anticipate and resolve potential issues during fittings, providing clear feedback to market vendors for underwire and seamless prototypes.Manage the development and execution of trim and material development packages.Partner with market vendors and cross-functional in-house teams daily to track the status of styles in development, ensuring that product execution aligns with design specifications and stays on track throughout the style development process. Role Qualifications

 

Bachelor’s degree in apparel design with a focus on intimate apparel, swim, or activewear.Underwire foundation (UW) background and experience are required.Strong technical design skills with a passion for the technical aspects of design.Knowledge of cut-and-sew knits and woven fabrications within bras and undies is essential.Strong understanding of foundations apparel construction, materials, and manufacturing processes.Experience with seamless design is a plus.Excellent hand and computer sketching/CAD skills in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and Procreate. Knowledge or experience in AI would be a plus!Experience in research and development with a clear understanding of future technologies and trends in foundations.Strong project management skills with the ability to independently manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.Strong presentation skills to effectively showcase designs and collections to internal teams, executives, buyers, and merchandising teams.Excellent verbal and written communication skills to clearly convey design concepts.Proficiency in Microsoft platforms, including Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.

Years of experience required: 10+ years of design experience, preferably with a focus on bras, swimwear, activewear innovation, or a related area of business.
