Freight Rate Specialist
Summary Performs basic but progressively more difficult tasks under the close direction of a manager or more experienced employee. Responsibilities Applies basic knowledge in assisting with determining the mode of transportation to be used to distribute acid while considering advantages and disadvantages with respect of cost service, urgency, convenience and other relative factors. Assists with determining appropriate method of transportation of explosive dangerous goods and other hazardous material procured for distribution to field facilities or return to the FAA Logistics Center. Assists with assuring proper consideration is given to the factors involved. Assists in selecting the method of movement specific carrier and special services on outbound or inbound shipment on shipments to the US and overseas by all modes of transportation and assists with clearing property through US customs as required. Coordinates with manager or more experienced employee to ensure outbound shipments are processed in a timely manner. Provides assistance and support to reform prepayment audit on carrier billing before forwarding payment obligation to transportation paying offices. Works with manager or more experienced employee to consult with transportation officer on all aspects of proposed contract. Contacts are primarily internal to the organizational unit with a manager and other employees to share information, provide data and/or written analyses, and/or explain the statuses of tasks. Established policies and procedures provide detailed guidance for almost all tasks with a little or no room for discretion. Work under detailed instruction provided by a manager or more experienced employee. Regularly refers problems and work issues to a manager or more experienced employee for guidance. Work is reviewed regularly during tasks and at completion to ensure timeliness and all aspects of quality. Requirements Conditions of Employment We are not accepting applications from noncitizens. Qualifications To qualify for this position at the FV-F (FG 7-9) level, you must demonstrate in your application that you possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower level. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. Specialized Experience includes: determining classification of items, rates, and routes via most economical and efficient carriers for a limited variety of commodities and models; reviews shipping documents; classifies hazardous material from shipping codes into proper shipping name; ensures proper marking, certification, and labeling shipments.
