Squaremouth is looking for an experienced and motivated Front End Developer with experience in WordPress, PHP, and Rails to join our team. As a key member of our development team, you will work closely with designers, backend developers, and project managers to bring beautiful and functional web applications to life. This role will involve creating custom WordPress themes, developing front-end components in Rails applications, and ensuring a seamless, responsive, and accessible user experience across platforms.
Every person spends time troubleshooting bugs, reviewing other peoples’ code, supporting customer service while on-call, and deploying updates to production. This allows all of our developers the opportunity to understand our entire system from beginning to end. The Squaremouth team promotes a collaborative environment using industry best practices, such as weekly iteration planning meetings, Continuous Integration, code reviews, and Continuous Deployment. Peer critiques and constructive criticism allow the development team to grow and learn at a fast pace.
What you will do:
Design and implement custom WordPress themes and plugins to enhance website functionality and user experienceBuild, maintain, and optimize front-end components within our Rails applicationsCollaborate with back-end developers and designers to create highly responsive, user-centric interfacesTranslate UI/UX designs into modern interfaces with efficient code using HTML, CSS, and JavaScriptOptimize front-end performance to ensure fast load times and smooth interactionEnsure cross-browser compatibility, responsive design, and adherence to accessibility standardsConduct code reviews and participate in software development lifecycleExperience and skills that are important for success in this position:
At least 3 years of hands-on development experience in web application developmentProficient in HTML, CSS, JavaScript (including frameworks such as Bootstrap or React)Strong experience with WordPress theme development and plugin customizationGood understanding of PHP, particularly in a WordPress environmentBasic knowledge of Rails and working with Rails views and front-end integrationsFamiliarity with responsive design principles, cross-browser compatibility, and web accessibility standardsAbility to work independently, arranging your work to meet deadlinesPassion for growing your skills, tackling interesting work, and challenging problemsEnergetic, positive attitudeAbility to work within a team, collaborate on projects, and share responsibilityIt would be great if you had experience with:
