FSQ Lab Technician - Great Falls
OVERVIEW General Mills is seeking a full-time Food Safety and Quality Lab Technician to provide day-to-day safety and quality support for the Great Falls Mill, which will include analytical testing, data entry, communication and interpretation of Good Manufacturing Practices, HACCP, and other quality procedures as needed. Work schedule includes working 8 hours per day, Monday through Friday. KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES Daily analytical (chemical and physical) testing of in-process materials and finished goods including but not limited to farinograph, falling number, color spectrometry, grain test weights, spec counts, NIR testing, and all wet chemistry – oven moisture analysis and overnight ash testing – frequency as requested, and any/all other future laboratory testing that is added in response to the business needs. Testing will be using prescribed methodology. Maintain current approved methods for all testing procedures Support routine maintenance, machine cleanliness, and troubleshooting of lab equipment to ensure peak operation. Carry out IRM program testing according to Analytical and Quality Assurance program designed by grain lab Make up chemical solutions and complete equipment calibrations and diagnostic testing as needed. Maintain sample retention as required Shipping all analytical flour testing samples to grain lab as requested Shipping grain weight tickets for elevator daily Communication with FSQ manager for any/all products not within specification Utilize computer software to enter, store, and analyze test results Perform data entry into the various quality system databases Support all other departments with data entry, integrity of data, and filing paperwork for ongoing operations Collect and process monthly CM samples for the grain lab – FOSS Calibration Complete COA’s for bulk product customers Keep inventory of lab supplies and alert FSQ manager when low Perform quality audits with precision and accuracy, responding to identified issues/potential issues quickly Conduct FSRA/GMP inspections as requested Attend all monthly plant communication meetings for food and human safety training Additional Accountabilities: Ingredient inventory and monthly ingredient reconciliation Assist warehouse with loading/unloading inspections if needed Research old age products in warehouse and prepare list for destruction Create wheat blends for the elevator as requested by FSQ Manager Perform environmental swabs (Salmonella and STEC) when needed Review MQIS data from previous day and call out any OOS products for the mill DDS meetings MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS High School Degree or Associate Degree. Basic computer/technology skills (Excel, Word, Outlook and ability to learn internal computer programs) Strong attention to detail is a must Ability to communicate effectively and contribute to a team environment Ownership and responsibility for tasks and high-quality work output Strong organizational skills with an ability to handle multiple priorities PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Previous experience in similar field preferred (lab/food safety/quality assurance/ manufacturing experience) Proven team player Self-directed Additional Skills: Strong oral and written communication skills Strong interpersonal skills Good organization skills Strong problem-solving skills with a proactive approach to identifying and solving problems PC skills – proficiency with Word and Excel preferred Good organizational skills Works independently with minimal supervision Good communication skills (both verbally and written) Ability to work independently and efficiently manage time Ability to multi-task to work efficiently Exemplary attendance record Ability to work in laboratory setting while standing for long periods of time Basic knowledge of OSHA chemical safety requirements/hazardous materials training Basic understanding of continuous improvement processes Ability to work in manufacturing areas for inspections which may require bending, kneeling, and climbing ladders Schedule flexibility required. Rotating weekend work, overtime and off shift coverage as required. Willingness to learn new tasks and take on additional responsibility to support the Food Safety and Quality (FSQ) Function as needed. Salary Range The salary range for this position is $41900.00 - $57800.00 / Annually.
