Fuel Operations Director

POSITION SUMMARY:  

Directs staff and all activities related to the procurement, distribution and marketing of fuels.   Primary liaison for all branded and unbranded supply relationships including administration of contracts.  Negotiates and administers carrier contracts and oversees carrier performance. Supports environmental department on compliance and training matters.  Manages payment systems including proprietary fleet card.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Leadership and Management

Develops overall fuels strategies including supply relationships, carrier relationships and marketing programsResponsible for fulfilling supply contract obligations to insure optimum incentive recoveryOversees retail pricing strategies and execution to insure achievement of volume and margin goalsDevelops and implements initiatives related t payment systems including fleetcard sales and administration

Training and Development

Develops fuels team to maximize coordinated efforts on supply, distribution, volume, and margin

Communication

Must effectively communicate with suppliers, carriers, and associatesCoordinates fuels objectives with other department initiatives to optimize performance of stores

Organizing and Planning

Requires management of multiple tasks and timely completion of dutiesAnticipates opportunities to reduce product costs through innovative supply agreements

Financial

Accountable for establishing and achieving volume and margin targets as defined in the budgetControls Fuels Dept costs to budgeted levelsRecommends capital improvements to improve fuels contribution to store profitability

REQUIREMENTS:  Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Marketing or related field preferred with 7 to 10 years job related experience in retail product pricing, procurement, leading teams and multi-store responsibility, preferably in a retail industry Extensive background in fuels marketing and products distribution. Advanced managerial and leadership skills. Proficient in Microsoft Office products and aptitude to develop and understand other software tools Physical Demands:  Work requires frequent sitting, standing, walking and use of keyboard/computer. Work requires occasional bending, reaching and lifting/moving up to 35 pounds. Work is subject to tight deadlines and interruptions can be stressful. Travel to store locations as necessary.
