Fuel Yard Technician - Nacogdoches

Nacogdoches Generating facility is a biomass-fired bubbling fluidized bed (BFB) boiler and steam turbine generator (STG) power plant with a net capacity of 105 MW. The facility is located approximately 20 miles NW of Nacogdoches, Texas, near the town of Sacul, Texas.

Opportunity Summary

This position has primary responsibilities in the fuel handling areas of a biomass power plant. These areas include operating biomass fuel yard equipment, receiving biomass fuel, monitoring, troubleshooting, maintaining, and repairing all electrical and mechanical biomass fuel yard equipment.

Primary Duties

Operate & maintain all equipment associated with biomass fuel handling Monitor environmental requirements & emissions while maintaining compliance Perform real-time equipment assessments and perform any necessary corrective action Perform preventive & corrective maintenance Perform receiving and required testing for biomass fuel Perform electrical and mechanical maintenance Support biomass plant outages and I&C work

Working Relationships

The Fuel Yard Technician reports to the Operations Supervisor.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

Physical requirements include standing for extended periods of time, stair and ladder climbing, and routinely lifting up to 50 pounds. Protective equipment must be worn in the performance of some duties (e.g., hard hats, safety glasses, air masks, ear protection, chemical suits, hot gloves, and high voltage protective equipment, etc.). Work with hazardous materials may be required. There are extensive smoking restrictions in and around the facility.

Fitness for Duty

All employees will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program. This program includes a post-offer physical examination and drug screening and post-employment random drug screening. 

Work Schedule

A "7/7" work schedule of 7 days on, 7 days off, followed by 7 nights on, and then 7 days off with weekend and holiday work, as required by schedules, workload, and plant conditions. "On call" status will periodically be required.

Compensation

Initial compensation will start at $26.00 per hour.

Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and repair electrical and mechanical equipment Solid-fuel fuel handling operations and maintenance experience (rolling stock, conveyors, scales, truck unloaders, etc.) Excellent communication and problem-solving skills Team player Must be able to handle complex, pressure situations and be adaptable to a changing work environment Effective oral and written communication skills; demonstrates initiative, personal drive, safety as a core value, values continuous learning, and teamwork; must be able to work with limited supervision Must be able to support a 24x7 work schedule including holidays and overtime when necessary Valid driver's license required
