Full-Time Armed Special Police Officer

POSITION SUMMARY

 

We are currently hiring Full-Time Armed Special Police Officer to work at the Department of the Interior satellite office located in Washington DC. Various full-time shifts are available for those who possess a minimum of two years’ security experience and are looking to become part of a team that allows career growth.

 

Pay Transparency:

Pay Rate is $32.81/hr 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

Perform all duties as specified in accordance with the Contract and the Post Orders. Remain properly uniformed and present a neat, clean, and professional appearance as referenced in the SOW. Thoroughly knowledgeable about their duties and demonstrate the ability to act effectively during emergencies or other unusual situations. Possess all required valid certification cards while on duty. Possess all necessary permits, credentials, etc., as required by the Contract or by local or state law. Capable of frequent and prolonged walking, standing, sitting, and stooping, up to twelve (12) hours per day, either indoors or outdoors, during daytime or nighttime. Outdoor posts may require the individual to withstand extreme heat, humidity, cold, and /or severe weather (e.g., snow, sleet, rain, hail, wind) for up to four hours without shelter. Capable of frequent contact with the general public, law enforcement, and dispatch center. Able to speak clearly and distinctly and remain calm in stressful situations (e.g., confrontations with angry, distraught, disturbed, or violent persons). Possess and retain the ability to remain on post up to four consecutive hours without eating or drinking (except for water). Possess and retain the ability to maintain a high degree of alertness for up to 12 hours, with the ability to mentally and physically react quickly to a variety of unexpected and dangerous situations. Use of senses (sight, hearing, smell, touch) is necessary to discern unusual or dangerous situations. Possess and retain the ability to use post security equipment, magnetometers, X- rays, screening wands, CCTV, CPU's, ability to use handcuffs, baton, chemical spray, and (where required by post assignments) firearm at any time while on duty. Possess and retain the ability to read and understand post assignments, legibly write reports, and respond to both routine and emergency dispatches/orders. Possess and retain the ability to subdue violent or potentially violent or disturbed individuals, or intervene in a crisis (e.g., provide emergency first aid/CPR while waiting for arrival of paramedics or other emergency personnel). Possess and retain the ability for occasional running, sprinting, lifting heavy weights, moving heavy objects, climbing stairs (e.g., responding to emergencies, ensuring timely and complete facility evacuations, giving pursuit, etc.).

QUALIFICATIONS

Be a citizen of the United States of America. Be at least 21 years of age.  Meet all Medical requirements to include drug screening. Speak, read, write, and comprehend the English language fluently and compose coherent written reports in English. Bi-lingual Officers are naturally an asset to the Contractor, but under no circumstances should the Contractor permit a guard who is not fully fluent and understandable in the English language to work under this contract. It is imperative that all officers have fully legible handwriting that requires no unusual effort or requests for clarification to read and understand. Any officers who consistently (more than twice in three (3) months) fail to meet this requirement may be removed from the contract at the discretion of the COR. Possess, at a minimum, either a high school diploma or a GED equivalency certificate, and meet one of the below requirements:
o Three years of security experience within the past five years; or
o An associate degree, or at least 60 credit hours of college coursework in in any field of study; or
o Three years of military or National Guard (active duty or reserve) experience; or
o Successful completion of Police Officer's Standard Training; or
o Any combination of the above (i.e., two years of security experience plus one year of college coursework). Meet and maintain all required credentials and certificates in accordance with the contract and local laws. Successful completion of Special Police Officer (SPO) training and certification
Physical Demands Contract employees must be physically able to perform tasks and/or functions listed below, in performance of assigned duties: Frequent and prolonged walking, standing, sitting, and stooping, up to 12 hours per day, either indoors or outdoors, during daytime or nighttime. Ability to use post security equipment (metal detectors, X-rays, CCTV); ability to use handcuffs, baton, and firearm at any time while on duty. Ability to read post assignments, write reports, and respond to both routine and emergency dispatches/orders. Ability to subdue violent or potentially violent or disturbed individuals, or intervene in a crisis (e.g., provide emergency First Aid or/resuscitation while waiting for arrival of paramedics or other emergency personnel). Occasional running, sprinting, lifting heavy weights, moving heavy objects, climbing stairs (e.g., in responding to emergencies, ensuring timely and complete facility evacuations, giving pursuit, etc.).

WORKING CONDITIONS

 

Work is typically based in a busy office environment and subject to frequent interruptions. Business work hours are Monday-Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, however some extended or weekend hours may be required.

Stairwell event (must equal approximately 4 floors up and 4 floors down) Climb up entire 4 floor stairwell. Climb down entire 4 floor stairwell. Sit down. Test complete entire test must be completed in 6 minutes for all officers.
