Bard High School Early College ManhattanFull-time Faculty - BiologyApply Here:https://apply.interfolio.com/151564 Bard High School Early College - Manhattan, a partnership between Bard College and the New York City Department of Education, invites applications for a full-time tenure-track faculty position in Biology, beginning Fall 2025. BHSEC, a national model in the field of public school reform, enables talented and highly motivated students to move in four years from the ninth grade through the first two years of college, earning an Associate of Arts degree from Bard College as well as a high school diploma. The academic program emphasizes small class size and a commitment to teaching a diverse student body. BHSEC Manhattan implements a “Physics First” curriculum, offering a conceptual Physics course in ninth grade, Chemistry in tenth grade, and then General Biology in the first year of the college program. Nearly all students elect to take at least one semester of science in the second year of the college program. Successful applicants will teach three sections of a college lab-based introductory biology course as well as having the future possibility of teaching college science electives in their area of expertise. Additional Responsibilities: + Participate in curriculum development. + Commitment to regular and ongoing professional development. + Commitment to working with students individually and in small groups through tutoring, office hours and advising outside of regular class time. + Communicate regularly with administrators, parents and other stakeholders about student progress and engagement. + Participate fully in the life of the school, including student advising, club advising, and committee service. Location: Bard High School Early College (BHSEC) Manhattan, 525 E Houston Street, New York, NY 10002 Start Date: September 2025; Hiree must be fully authorized to work in the U.S. for a September 2025 start date Duration: Ongoing Position Compensation: The compensation for teaching these classes is based on the NYC DOE salary scale found on this page: https://www.uft.org/your-rights/salary/doe-and-city-salary-schedules/teacher-salary-schedule The position may be funded by either Bard College or the NYC Department of Education. Hiree must be fully authorized to work in the U.S. for a September 2025 start date. Qualifications + New York State teaching certification is desirable; assistance in securing certification will be provided to the successful candidate, if necessary. + We seek teachers and scholars deeply committed to their field and creative in engaging students at both the college and high school levels with its delights and challenges. + The ideal candidate will be a skilled educator with a demonstrated interest in engaging and challenging younger students with diverse racial backgrounds, economic backgrounds, and a variety of approaches to learning and/or needs for learning support. + The ideal candidate will have an interest in working with high school age students who are completing a college course of study. + The ideal candidate will demonstrate a continued interest in the ongoing work in their field. + The ideal candidate will understand cultural difference and purposefully help to uplift ideas from underrepresented groups to improve the equity balance in education. + The ideal candidate will have a commitment to advancing equity through rigorous curricula made accessible to students with varied academic backgrounds. + Preference will be given to those candidates who have earned a Ph.D. in their field and have both college and high school teaching experience.
