Overview of Position:

Provides insurance authorization expertise to assure timely and accurate billing of managed care claims requiring prior authorization for home care services.

Responsibilities Secure authorizations for all managed care clients in a timely manner to facilitate billing and maximize reimbursement.Track all authorizations using the Electronic Medical Records (EMR) for authorization information, as well as status and outcome of all requests to aide in the alleviation of bad debt.Communicate timely with clinical staff and third-party payers regarding the medical necessity for authorizations for home care services and reminders regarding pending authorization expirations.Communicate with scheduling coordinators, clinical staff and managers/supervisors regarding inquiries/referrals that are pending awaiting authorization.Verify the accuracy of the authorization information in the EMR as entered by other agency staff.Work closely with billing and accounting staff to facilitate timely and accurate billing to prevent denials resulting in bad debt.Review clinical documentation and aid in the appeals process when claims are denied.Other duties as assigned.Supports mission, values and goals of Signature. Qualifications/Skillsets

 

High School diploma or equivalentMinimum two years’ experience in administrative position in healthcare settingExperience with medical/insurance billing, insurance authorizations and or medical claims processingKnowledge and training home health and or hospice services, medical background and/or insurance authorization experience preferredProficient in computer/data entry a mustAble to self-manage and work with minimal supervisionPossess strong problem solving and organizational skillsExceptional interpersonal skills both over the phone and in personStrong customer service attitudeWillingness to help other team members to complete special projects or tasksKnowledge of IT systems and general computer skills
