Somerville Police Seeking Full-Time Lateral Transfers
The City of Somerville is currently accepting applications to hire full-time experienced civil service police officers who are dedicated, community-driven, and equity-focused through the lateral transfer process.
The Somerville Police Department offers a comprehensive benefit package and includes:

Candidates must have completed the MPTC-certified full-time police academy or equivalent and have at least one year of field experience. They must be currently employed as a full-time, civil service sworn police officer and maintain an active certification from the Massachusetts Peace Officer Standards (POST) Commission. They are required to have a valid Massachusetts motor vehicle operator’s license and license to carry (LTC). Additionally, they must reside at the time of application in a city or town within 25 miles of Somerville.
Candidates seeking a transfer to the Somerville Police Department must submit a letter of interest and apply no later than Friday, May, 10, 2024.
Candidates must be eligible for transfer from their current department.
All candidates seeking transfer will be required to successfully complete a comprehensive background investigation, medical examination, and psychological examination. Civil Service age restrictions do not apply to lateral transfers within civil service.
