The Functional Architect (FA) is the functional expert for an application, a defined set of applications or a portfolio of related applications. The Functional Architect is also responsible for bringing an understanding of the enterprise, business system and industry to the team(s) supporting or interfacing with the application. 
The primary responsibility of a Functional Architect is to provide expertise in the business process supported by the application, to prepare and review designs, to recommend improvements, and to provide guidance during the testing process. 
The Functional Architect must understand all aspects of their specific application(s), and the underlying business process. The more experienced Functional Architect plans, analyzes, and defines high- level software strategies and solutions. Contained in the experienced role is the task of coordinating with other Functional Architects to define technical requirements and long range plans for meeting customer requirements.
Years of Relevant Experience: Five plus years in particular application area
Preferred Education: 4 year college degree or equivalent technical study
Role Description:developing a Business Requirements Document (BRD)developing detailed requirements included in the Request for Proposals (RFP)evaluating technical proposals as the chair of the Technical Review Committeeparticipating in vendor reference checksevaluating proposed costs relative to our budget on the Cost Review Committeereviewing demo platforms of proposed solutionsinteracting with potential vendorsWhen the contract for the new licensing system is signed, additional responsibilities that includes, but are not limited to, these examples:making critical decisions as the Product Owner tracking and reviewing project deliverables providing management and oversight to the project teams such as Test, Training and Knowledge Transfer, Database Conversion, and Reports/InterfacesPost-implementation, the incumbent in this position will roll off to managing day-to-day support activities not only for the new licensing system but all enterprise systems, such as the imaging system, customer relationship management system, and Prescription Monitoring Program.
