RTX Technology Research Center’s Physical Sciences Department is seeking an innovative engineer/scientist with expertise in polymer matrix composite (PMC) materials, manufacturing, and automation.  The candidate is intended to be an integral member of dynamic teams focused on creating and advancing novel materials and manufacturing technologies for both aerospace and defense applications.

Qualifications You Must Have

Bachelor's degree in Materials Science Engineering, Physics, or a related field and 5+ years of related work experience or a Master's degree with 3+ years of related work experience or a PhD.

The candidate should have materials growth (mesoscale and/or thin film) experience applicable to one or more of the following areas: (1) electro-optical, infrared, or radio frequency (EO/IR/RF) response; (2) materials and device fabrication and characterization; (3) compound semiconductors (4) modeling to help direct key parameters of interest in predicting material and device performance.

A fundamental understanding as to how the material properties and processing impact material and device functional performance is required and have an intimate knowledge of mesoscale and thin film deposition processing.

The candidate must be capable of operating independently in the laboratory while also being comfortable working with others from a variety of backgrounds in a teaming environment and have excellent verbal and written communication skills to provide technical presentations to leadership and to prepare reports for customer review

Qualifications We Prefer

A PhD in Materials Science, Physics, Engineering, or related field.

Prior experience in a research or product development organization is preferred.

The ability to do multi-physics modeling including a working understanding of ab initio analysis is also desirable but not required.

Experience in writing and reviewing white papers and proposals is highly desirable.

The salary range for this role is 77,000 USD - 163,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
