DESCRIPTION
Reporting to the Public Health Fund Development Specialist (CPS IV), the Fund Development Associate supports grant and fund development activities to ensure public health program enhancements and sustainability. This position is hybrid and the office is located at the Main Health Department, 2525 Grand Avenue, Long Beach, CA 90815.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
+ Conduct research on various health issues such as violence prevention, environmental health, chronic disease prevention, sexually transmitted infections (STIs), etc. to produce strong statements of the need/problem for grant applications.
+ Analyze reports, evaluations, and epidemiology surveillance data to determine priority populations, goals, and objectives.
+ Lead meetings and workflow processes to ensure team members are on track with their respective duties.
+ Write and edit innovative grant proposal narratives.
+ Constantly gain fluency on various health topics and programs to expand knowledge base and effectively communicate needs, strengths, and program approaches in grant narratives.
+ Meet with division officers, program managers, and bureau managers to understand their funding needs and direct prospective grant searches based on their identified priorities.
+ Identify new grant opportunities that align with the Department’s mission and five-year strategic plan.
+ Additional and Expanded Duties
+ Co-facilitate listening sessions and collect critical anecdotal data from service providers, evaluators, and people with lived experiences to inform program design.
+ Assist with developing and conducting trainings for Department managers and staff to increase their capacity to produce strong grant proposals and increase awareness of City processes and procedures.
+ Conduct debrief sessions with Department program leads to identify areas of growth for future funding opportunities.
+ Debrief with funders on unsuccessful grant applications, gather constructive feedback, and strategically apply insights to strengthen future proposals.
+ Research philanthropic opportunities.
+ Other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS TO FILE
EDUCATION
+ Bachelor's degree in Public Health, Public Administration, Business, Communications, or closely related field. (Proof of education required)
+ Experience offering specific and substantial preparation for the duties of the position may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
EXPERIENCE
+ Two (2) years full-time progressively experience coordinating and grant writing for public health programs.
+ A Master’s Degree in Public Health, Public Administration, or closely related field from an accredited college or university may be substituted for up to one (1) year of the required professional experience.
+ Willingness and ability to work evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays when necessary.
+ Valid Motor Vehicle Operator License. (Required to obtain a California Motor Vehicle operator license within 6 months of employment if out of state. California residents are required to submit a DMV K4 driver license information report during onboarding if selected for the position.)

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
+ Master’s Degree in Public Health, Public Administration, Business, Communications, or a closely related field.
+ Three (3) years progressively complex project management experience in public health programming and grant writing, with a record of success in expanding resources through cultivation and stewardship of partners.
+ Experience identifying, applying for, and receiving government grants (federal, state, county).
