Provides customer service in all areas of helping client families following the loss of a loved one. Provides exemplary personalized and professional service. Implements choices made by the families/legal representative regarding the final disposition of the body and memorialization of the individual. Interacts with the family to fulfill the death care needs of their loved one. Ensures customer needs are addressed. Fulfills the requirements as dictated by the licensing Board in the practicing state or province. In markets where regulatory requirements limit Pre-need sales to Funeral Directors, the Funeral Director’s job requirement will be consistent with the Family Service Counselor.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Arranges and conducts funeral and memorial ceremonies in a professional, organized and caring manner consistent with Company Policies and ProceduresNegotiates and enters into funeral contractsHandles contracts, legal documents, and collection of payments in accordance with company policies.Ensures client families are informed of special recognition/services available for veterans and ensures the delivery of selected recognition/services.Arranges for the interment or cremation of human remainsRetains heritage and grows market share through active involvement with community, religious and other organizationsConfirms authorization to proceed with the service arrangementsVerifies identification of the deceased and authorization for embalmingPromotes and maintain a safe and healthy work environmentEnsures adherence to all professional, municipal, provincial/state and federal licensing authority, regulations and rules applicable to the provision of funeral servicesCompletes and accurately prepares of all documents related to services, cremations, maintenance, and any other type of data entry; prepares reports as necessaryMay assist with general office dutiesMay assist with the maintenance of vehicles, the facility and propertyReceives caskets and other funeral home supplies as well as places into inventory and carrying out any other responsibilities that may be reasonably delegated by management Ensures refreshments are available (where allowed by law)Performs other duties as assignedCares for the deceased in a respectful manner while performing a variety of tasks which may include:Performing removals and transfers including lifting of deceased human remainsDressing and preparing casketCoordinating and assisting with funeral service and visitationDelivering flowers, caskets, urn, photos and other personal keepsakes or mementos of client familiesSetting up chairs and the removing, properly caring for and storing of these itemsParticipating at special functionsSupervises/assists in funeral services by:Supervising the parking of carsUsheringDriving funeral vehiclesAssisting at chapel and church servicesAssisting at the cemeteryDelivery of flowers, caskets, urn, photos and other personal keepsakes or mementos of client familiesSetting of chairs and the removal, proper care and storage of these itemsParticipating at special functionsOther duties, as requiredHandles pre-need sales and aftercare, where applicable. Aftercare includes delivery of:DocumentationStationeryInformation on insurance, health benefits and pension,Pre-arrangements for next of kinEnsures potential pre-need referrals are shared with Family Service CounselorsPromotes and maintain a safe and healthy work environmentEnsures adherence to all professional, municipal, provincial/state and federal licensing authority, regulations and rules applicable to the provision of funeral servicesCompletes and accurately prepares of all documents related to services, cremations, maintenance, and any other type of data entry; prepares reports as necessaryMay assist with general office dutiesMay assist with the maintenance of vehicles, the facility and propertyReceives caskets and other funeral home supplies as well as places into inventory and carrying out any other responsibilities that may be reasonably delegated by management Ensures refreshments are available (where allowed by law)Performs other duties as assigned

MINIMUM Requirements

Education

High School diploma or general equivalency degree (or diploma)Completion of a degree-training program at an accredited mortuary college or technical school specializing in funeral service or mortuary science

Experience

Minimum of 2 years of experience as an Apprentice, Funeral Director

Certification/Licenses

Must meet all licensing requirement in applicable state/province as required by law as prescribed by each state boardValid driver’s license

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Basic knowledge of religious and fraternal organizations customsKnowledge of computers and some software including MS Office products requiredHigh level of compassion and integrityGood communication skillsProblem solving skillsAbility to multi task and set prioritiesDetail oriented

Compensation:

Salary: $67,725 - $73,517 annually
