FY25: Teacher, Parent/Infant/Toddler Vision Specialist, Up County and Down County 1.0 FTE

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION:
Under direct supervision, Vision Infant/Toddler Teacher implements a home based program assessing needs and teaching blind and visually impaired children, (birth-2 years old), and their parents. Functions as team member of the Infant/Toddler Team as well as the Vision Services staff. Develop and implement an Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP) with the parent and family to address the child's visual needs in the home environment.

CERTIFICATE LICENSE:
Maryland State Certification in special education specifying visual impairment.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:
Thorough knowledge of visual, impairments,and their implications for early developmental growth and learning; understanding of the interactive effects of vision loss on infants and toddlers with multiple impairments. Competencies must include (1) ability to diagnostically assess need across all developmental areas, e.g., vision, sensory, motor, language, self-help, cognitive, affective and to implement a prescriptive instructional program for child and parent based on findings; (2) Report writing skills; parent education strategies; behavior management techniques. Excellent communications and human relations skills.

EDUCATION, TRAINING, and EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor's or Master's degree in special education specifying visual impairment; thorough knowledge of early development in normal children as well as the specific implications on learning and development for children with visual impairments, specific training in assessment of children with vision loss, early childhood coursework, and parent training,. Experience teaching blind and visually impaired children, (birth to 3 Years) preferred.
