About the Role

The Gas Meter Technician reports to the Project Manager at Bermex. This position will play a key role in gas meter maintenance, exchange, and measurement. This position requires a high degree of walking in outdoor environmental conditions, excellent time management, and exceptional flexibility day to day.

Salary Transparency: The pay rate for this position is at $25/hour.

What You’ll Do

Gas Meter Exchanges

Perform visual inspections of gas service for leaksIdentify hazards at meter sites and report accordinglyProperly change out gas meters of varying sizes and brandsProperly change out gas meter registers for AMI/AMR upgradePerform safety checks to ensure proper installationMay require walking for long distances (occasionally up to 20 miles per day) in various weather conditions (rain, sleet, hail, snow, extreme heat or cold, etc.)May exert physical force moving objects (routinely 10lbs. of force, up to an occasional 50 lbs. of force)

Customer Communication

Refers all consumer complaints to the appropriate authoritiesMay provide general information about the meter services to customers, when applicableUse telephones, tablets, and/or computers to communicate

Other duties as assigned.

About You

Must haves:

Education: None. Must be 18 years of age or older.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: None. Must be 18 years of age or older. 

Experience: Experience in exchanging gas/electric/water meters of varying sizes with ability to properly safety test, and troubleshoot . Upon hire, the candidate will need to complete and pass all Pipeline Operator Qualification (OQ) training

In lieu of meter experience, will accept comparable technical experience and skill. Preferred Qualifications:

Education: High School Degree

1 year’s experience in exchanging gas meters of varying sizes with ability to properly safety test, troubleshoot and relight pilot lights on a variety of existing appliances.

Must have a valid driver’s licenseAbility to multi-task and work independently as well as a teamExceptional flexibility in daily routines and route scheduling. Must be flexible in times of need, including extended nights and weekends.Adequate time management skills to finish daily meter reads in a timely manner, figuring out an efficient way to read meters for that dayExcellent communication skills, comfortable interacting management and customersAbility to interact with unhappy or negative customers in a professional mannerExcellent attention to detail for problem solving and findingAbility to walk long distances and prepare for weather conditions, accordinglyProficient computer skills, including knowledge of Microsoft Office programsPlace a high value on safety, quality of work, and operational procedures

Where We Work

Employees will begin their day at the local office where they will pick up their company vehicle, equipment, and assignments for the day.
