Gastroenterology Endoscopy Technician Specialist II
POSITION PURPOSE Under the direction and supervision of the GI Registered Nurse, the Endoscopy Tech Specialist will assist the physician with endoscopy procedures and assist RN with the collection of patient data and specimens. The Endoscopy Tech Specialist may also perform the following tasks such as: assisting in pre-procedure and post–procedure care, taking vital signs, and scope washing. Complies with established standards and procedures. MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIRED High School diploma or GED Minimum certification of CNA, LPN, Surgical Tech, or Medical Assistant Specialized training for GI Technical Specialist through Society of Gastroenterology Nurses and Associates (SGNA) preferred MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIRED Entry Level LICENSES / CERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED Current certificate of completion for GI Technical Specialist (GTS) must be obtained within three (3) months of hire. Current BLS and/or CPR certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross or the ability to obtain certification within 6 weeks of hire. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED The physical ability to walk, sit, stand, bend, push and lift, reach in accordance with patient care. Ability to read, write, hear, speak and comprehend the English language. The physical, technical, and cognitive ability as well as the manual dexterity to use patient equipment. Ability to perform under stressful situations. PRINCIPLE ACCOUNTABILITIES AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES Prepares room with proper equipment for scheduled procedure prior to patient entering suite. Adheres to universal protocols for a safe procedure such as identifying right patient for right procedure, time out and other aspects within their scope. Provides pre-, intra- and post-procedure care. Assists physician and RN with diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures and handling of specimens. Assists with patient positioning. Operates health care equipment. Documents basic elements of the procedure. Communicates observations to RN and team as appropriate. Follows standard precautions and infection control practices. Adheres with hospital/department policies and procedures. Other duties as assigned.
