Position Summary:

The position will be based out of Marathon Petroleum’s Galveston Bay Refinery in Texas City, TX. The role entails leading and advancing the Project Controls scheduling knowledge area, mentoring of junior staff, providing expertise on accompanying software applications along with supporting small to mid-cap ($1MM-$100MM) projects through supervision of scheduling contractors and the implementation of site-specific scheduling practices.

Key Responsibilities:

Serve as the Project Controls Lead Scheduler for the Engineering Department at Marathon Petroleum’s Galveston Bay Refinery.Act as the Projects Group Primavera administrator, which includes administration of access rights, global codes, layouts, resources and overall Primavera functionality.Ensure system is practical, cost effective and is linked to needs of all who are using it to drive business
efficiency.Assist in establishing standards for the Project Group Scheduling function including appropriate methods for each stage of project development in a fit for purpose manner.  Drive a common understanding of Primavera, its benefits and how it should be used consistently to achieve optimal project performance.Resource load and level project schedules and establish appropriate progress measurement, earned value
and performance reporting utilizing schedule data. Perform Critical Path Methodology (CPM) and provide solutions for mitigating schedule risk as it relates to the successful completion of each projects business objective.Coordinate or facilitate Interactive Planning Sessions (IPS) on the larger, more complex projects within the portfolioPerform risk analysis of project schedules utilizing Acumen Fuse, or the like. Provide external assurance to project teams and clearly identify gaps between scope, execution plans and schedule drivers. Lead benchmarking studies to compare project schedules to internal and external metrics, including the interpretation of results. Participate in the network of planning and scheduling contacts across the site to build rapport and ensure projects success.Implement processes that encourage early recognition and assessment of risks and opportunities that could
affect project results.Continuously inventory and assess the collection of Project Controls scheduling knowledge area’s procedures, guidelines, templates, forms and tools. Periodically improve the collection through elimination, enhancement and creation of components.Mentor and coach Co-ops, Interns as well as up-and-coming project staff.Monitor, review, assess, and occasionally audit large projects for compliance with prescribed standards, conformance with industry norms and alignment with local refinery business objectives.Deliver meaningful and timely status updates for key large projects to management. 

Education and Experience:

Minimum (Required) Qualifications:

A High School Diploma or equivalent with 10+ years of relevant industry experience or a Bachelor's degree, preferably in Engineering, Construction Management, Finance or Accounting with 5+ years of relevant industry experience is required. (Education must be obtained/completed prior to start date)Experience with the following: Oracle Primavera Enterprise (P6) is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with the following: 1) a commercially available application for assessing schedule risk on Primavera based schedules (e.g. Acumen Fuse) and 2) NetPoint. Certification in Project Management in Primavera P6.                                             Advanced skills using Microsoft Excel, Access and Word.
