GEAR UP Utah First-Year Services Advisor
This is a part-time position with 10-15 hours per week-working primarily when it is convenient for the college students you are assigned to, as well as in accordance with your own schedule. There is some flexibility in the schedule, so depending on the needs of the students, you may have hours during the day, or in the late afternoon. The position is available immediately, but the exact start date will be determined after you are hired. The rate of pay is $15.50 per hour (depending on level of experience).
As the First-Year Services Advisor, you are responsible for assisting freshmen college at USU and Bridgerland Technical College. You are also responsible to visit with high school seniors once a month at Sky View, Green Canyon, Ridgeline, and Mountain Crest.

Background Understanding of the Position:
Every student you will be working with has been a member of GEAR UP Utah, which focuses on working with low-income students in their efforts to attend college/technical school after they graduate high school. The students worked with an advisor each week to maintain grades, explore career/job options, and participated in workshops to find their passion in education.
GEAR UP (Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs) is a federally funded grant program. Its goal is to increase college awareness for low-income students and their families and to help students develop the skills and preparation necessary to pursue education after high school. GEAR UP works collaboratively with schools, parents and community organizations to help students build the knowledge, skills and confidence needed to prepare for college.
GEAR UP USU is made possible by a collaborative partnership with the USU Teacher Education and Leadership Department and Cache County School District.
