Overview

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Competency I:  Planning and Preparation

- Provides individualized education and engages students in active learning.

- Ensures that classroom environment and activities are conducive to students’ development of independence, competence, and sense of self-worth. Completes and submits necessary paperwork, lesson plans, instructional data, behavior data, and day school weekly summaries to immediate supervisor for each student assigned.

- Working knowledge of IEPs, develop and track IEP goals, collaborate with stakeholders in IEP Completion. Attends IEP meetings (review/revise, annual, domain, 3-year re-eval) and serves as gen ed teacher of the IEP for students under their direct charge, on an as needed basis. 

- Provides classroom orientation to classroom support staff.

- Attends department meetings, in-services and other meetings as scheduled to discuss current developments and exchange ideas.

Competency II:  Classroom Environment

- Functions within legal, licensing, Agency, and professional standards in maintaining a therapeutic and educational environment for the student within the classroom throughout the school day.

- Establishes a culture for learning as evidenced by student and staff interactions. Provides leadership and direction to staff responsible for supporting the classroom. 

- Develops and implements overall classroom Behavior Management Plan and individualizes this for specific students as necessary as well as incorporating recommendations from team members.

- Completes Incident Reports per policy to ensure communication of pertinent information regarding student’s social, emotional, behavioral and physical functioning.

Competency III:  Instruction

- Plans and provides high quality face to face and/or virtual instruction based on students’ Individualized Education Plans (IEPs)

- Incorporates new instructional models and assessment techniques to assure optimum educational standards and ability to reach students’ changing needs.  - Applies knowledge gained through participation in continuing education, attendance at professional conferences, review of professional journals and participation in in-service programs and/or other internal opportunities presented. - -

- Accesses and implements standards-based curriculum and modifications/accommodations based on individual student needs.  Implements ongoing assessment and reflection around instructional practices and student engagement. 

- Updates Progress Reports in accordance with the trimester or quarterly marking period schedule (i.e. goals met, percent, trials, etc.).

Competency IV: Professionalism

- Maintains acceptable attendance by working scheduled hours per school calendar; reporting to work on time; complying with education department policies/guidelines for use of Paid Time Off (scheduled/unscheduled); making an effort to find coverage for scheduled absences; submitting for prior approval any changes in work schedule to immediate supervisor; working beyond the regular schedule if necessary, to complete educational goals.

- Maintains valid teaching license in accordance with Indiana Department of Education requirements.

- Acts as a mandated reporter. 

QUALIFICATIONS:  

- Bachelor's Degree (required)

- Teacher Certification in the area of practice (preferred); or, eligible for alternative pathway to licensure.

- Eligible for State Special or Regular Education Licensure (required)

- Demonstrated success in handling the classroom and interaction with Support staff preferred.

- Experience in working with students with autism, emotional disabilities or intellectual disabilities is preferred.
