Come work as General Internal Medicine Physician with Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH)!

Lions Gate Hospital is currently looking for a locum to cover an upcoming maternity leave with the potential to subsequently join the group as a full member.

North Vancouver is a lively and growing city conveniently located just across the water from downtown Vancouver, nestled in the North Shore mountains.  Recently named the Most Livable City in Canada by the Globe and Mail, there are endless activities too enjoy, restaurants to sample and cultural events to experience.

We are currently a friendly and collegial group of 12 full time GIMs and run a full-service Internal Medicine practice with subspecialty support from GI, Respiratory, Cardiology, ID and Medical Oncology with a closed HAU/ICU (by Intensivists).  We have a full complement of surgical specialties including Orthopedics, OB/Gyne, Plastics and Neurosurgery.

We are a large suburban hospital and provider care to a wide variety of patients. We provide excellent continuity of care by admitting and following our own patients, minimizing handover.  We typically work for 2-3 weeks at a time on site and then have the remainder of the time to do outpatient work, outreach work (in communities such as Smithers, Penticton and Whitehorse) or vacation (our schedule is available/predictable far in advance to allow proper planning).  We are a teaching site for UBC and have a robust Perioperative service, several rapid access clinics and a well-run outpatient practice that interested physicians could seamlessly join.

The successful candidate should have strong interest in both inpatient and ambulatory care of general internal medicine patients.  Equal preference will be given to those with 4 year and 5 year GIM training. Competitive candidates will possess outstanding clinical, communication, teaching, and interpersonal skills that enable them to work collaboratively with other physicians, learners, hospital staff and administrators. Applicants must be certified (or eligible for certification) by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and must be licensed (or eligible for licensure) in the Province of British Columbia. The successful candidate must hold MD qualifications.

LGH is also in the process of expansion with a brand new tower opening in the coming months.  It is an ideal spot to practice if you are interested in a community-feel that is close to all the amenities of the city.  There is opportunity to see a wide range of pathology while still having help just minutes away.
