We are looking for an General Lab Engineer (GLE) to join the team located at one of our client sites. The role assists in the provision of a high-quality engineering service to a range of robotic systems within the R&D community. Through prompt fault finding and efficient maintenance planning ensuring maximum uptime of all robotic systems supporting increased time for science for our customer. Work closely with all members of the iLS team and provide a proactive and focussed approach, optimising service delivery and automation up-time.
Key Responsibilities:
Ensure prompt, flexible, customer focused equipment support whilst maintaining compliance with statutory, regulatory and engineering standards
Diagnose faults on complex equipment and systems utilizing the multi-disciplinary support internal and external to the team to produce a satisfactory solution
Plan & carry out engineering maintenance and commissioning work associated with scientific equipment and systems in a safe, cost-effective manner to ensure minimum business disruption
Use technical knowledge to identify and source components and services
Create, manage and review supporting documentation e.g. service reports
Support users in the preparation/design of operating procedures, SOPs, Change Control and the deviation, manuals and drawings
Manage the availability of essential spares to support the range of equipment and systems used within the R&D facilities in a cost-effective manner
Support contract management in the set-up, renewal and budget of contracts
Monitor the performance of the scientific equipment and systems using Key Performance Indicators to instigate improvements and influence changes
Support to PKI Management Team to ensure all activities are completed
Ensure that a full and detailed task specific Risk Assessment/Method Statement is completed prior to any work commencing
Take reasonable care for the health and safety of themselves and of other persons who could be affected by their acts or omissions
Report any accidents or near misses that they experience, or witness, to their Line Management
Co-operate and assist in all aspects of health and safety procedures introduced by management for their well-being
Wear personal protective equipment when conditions require or when required to do so by the relevant risk assessment, method statement or mandatory signage
Critical Skills:
Experience within the Laboratory Instrument Support sector across a wide range of scientific equipment.
Ideal candidate will be currently working as a laboratory engineer with any of centrifuges. Incubators, balances, vacuum pumps, fridges, freezers, Water purifiers, plate washers/readers
Very Strong relationship management and excellent communication skills/influencing skills.
Ability to work to own initiative but team orientated and able to work with minimal supervision
Strong analytical skills with proven ability to break down and solve complex problems in a logical and structured approach.
Knowledge and understanding of EHS procedures
Experience of working in a fast paced, operational environment.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
High customer focus.
Basic Qualifications:
Technical Engineering Qualification or Apprenticeship
L3 engineering discipline.
Experience within the Laboratory Instrument Support sector.
PC literate in Microsoft packages (Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc).
Working Environment:
Role is site based on a customer site.
Must be able to work in a laboratory, controlled environments requiring personal protective equipment (e.g., lab coat, safety glasses, etc.) in laboratory.
Must be able to remain in a stationary position more than 25% of the time
The person needs to occasionally move between labs, corridors, adjoining rooms, and buildings onsite Frequently operating around instruments, objects, tools or controls, which will require regularly bending, squatting, stretching and reaching in order to perform in a service function.
May be required to complete Medical Clearance, Respiratory Protection Training, and Fit Testing to wear a respirator as protection against hazards present in the laboratory environment.
