GENERAL SHOP HELP

A Brief Summary of This Position:

Does miscellaneous production work to aid in production processes such as helping production workers by performing duties requiring less skill. Duties include supplying or holding hanging parts, providing materials tools, and cleaning work area and equipment. Manual move freight, stock, or other materials or perform other general labor.

Essential Functions:

Valmont is currently seeking a highly motivated and talented individual for the General Shop Help position in the Petersburg Virginia Galvanizing facility.  We are looking for a highly driven individual that will prepare products and materials for the galvanizing process by hanging angle on spreader bars, staging tubular products, and preparing small parts for galvanizing. Clean and finish product using hand tools and/or power tools according to specification.Hand wire small to medium-sized parts to racks for pickling or galvanizingPull and place chains and ropes around steel bundles for rackingMove lightweight pieces of steel by hand from different locations in the plant and yardPerform paddling functions to enhance the quality level of the various galvanized products using air guns to blow off zinc needlesUse air or electric powered tools to help prepare steel for pickling or galvanizingInspect and identify unsafe production tools, fixtures, chains, and hooks to ensure proper repair or discard unsafe itemsAssist in general plant clean up and housekeepingWork safely, protecting self and others from accident and injuryProvide back up on Forklift or CranesAssist in other areas of the plant as needed

Required Qualifications of Every Candidate:

The ability to read and follow written and verbal instructions. The ability to learn and apply training The ability to be flexible within the plant (changing departments as needed) The ability to use hand tools and/or power toolsThe ability to accurately read a tape measureThe ability to lift up to 50 poundsThe ability to push, pull, stand, bend, walk, and climb as job requiresThe ability to work in an outside environmentThe ability to communicate problems/needs to lead or supervisorMust be a person of passion and integrity who has the drive to excel and deliver exceptional results

 Highly qualified candidates will also possess:

High School Diploma or GED equivalentSix months of previous experience in a galvanizing positionSix months of previous experience with hand tools and gauges including impact wrenches, air grinders, drills, taps, oxygen acetylene torches, and mill gaugesSix months of previous experience operating a bridge craneThe ability to communicate and interact with coworkers in a positive mannerThe ability to pay attention to detail and follow work instructionsMust have a high awareness for safety at all times
