The role manages a portfolio of litigated general liability matters throughout the life cycle of each claim, including complex litigated claims and is responsible for all components of the litigation in partnership with outside counsel including, investigation, managing the reserve, discovery, analyzing liability, damages and matter resolution. The role actively engages in settlement discussions and makes decisions on litigation resolution.


 

What You'll be Doing:

Manage, investigate, and resolve litigated general liability claims. Investigate and evaluate liability, indemnity damages, and resolves claims within prescribed authority levels.Review all work for accuracy, completeness, and soundness of assumptions.Confer with outside counsel and is responsible for completion of matter reports.Prepare for and attends settlement conferences, mediations, facilitations, as necessary.Investigate and evaluates indemnity opportunities to obtain indemnity and defense.Conduct pre-claim investigation, legal research and initial case assessments.Perform administrative duties (calendar hearings and deadlines, organize case files, manage logistics, etc.).Edit or draft routine legal documents for review and use by attorneys.Categorize and interpret data.Engage in efforts to recovery indemnity amounts and avoid/ reduce fees and costs.Update and maintain internal legal databases.Prepare witness and other materials for case preparation.Organize relevant documents for attorney review and case preparation.Manage defense counsel, including monitoring and evaluating their performance.Communicate with internal business partners, attorneys, vendors, claimants and opposing counsel related to matter.Ensure adequacy of reserves. Independently determine and provide the appropriate documents in connection with answering discovery requestsOrganize and review discovery documents from local counsel for responsiveness and privilege.Responsible for managing the practices and billing activities of retained counsel.Identify corporate representatives to produce for depositions and assists in preparation sessions to ensure the business is well-represented.Assist with the coordination and preservation of data for legal holds associated with claims, litigation, and investigations.Remain current on industry topics, trends, processes, technology, best practices, shares knowledge, drives new policies, processes, and procedures, and travels as needed.Retain appropriate counsel, monitors work products, and partners with counsel to handle litigation claims efficiently.Special projects as assigned.Negotiate and resolve matters as appropriate within settlement authority.This job profile is not meant to be all inclusive of the responsibilities of this position; may perform other duties as assigned or required.

What You Bring with You (Qualifications):

Paralegal education/certificate.5 years or more experience in litigation or personal injury. Strong competency of legal general liability principles including liability and damages with an understanding of the governing laws, including contractual indemnity liability.Strong negotiation skills.Strong analytical skills related to investigations, strategies, and discovery reviews.Excellent written and verbal communications skills; ability to handle difficult situations.Pro-active and collaborative mindset with an ability to work in a fast-paced team environment, handling multiple tasks and meeting deadlines.Strong interpersonal, analytical, and investigative skills required. Has knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within indemnity and litigation.
