General Maintenance Worker

This position serves as a General Maintenance Worker for AFO at the Office of Scientific and Technical Information (OSTI), Oak Ridge, Tennessee.

Responsibilities

Supports the project Safety Plan through personal involvement in all aspects of safety, including training and attention to the adherence to safety requirements pertaining to particular trades.

Performs general maintenance and repair of equipment and building requiring basic skills and knowledge in such trades as painting, carpentry, plumbing, masonry, and electrical assistance.

Keeps supervisor apprised of unique situations and problems encountered.

Performs a variety of duties: as replacing cover plates, using plaster or compound to patch minor holes and cracks in walls and ceilings; painting structures and equipment and furniture moves.

Ensures proper housekeeping practices are observed.

Assists other crafts and trades personnel in their daily operations.

Mowing, Trimming, and Weed Control

Performs other tasks as necessary.

Work Conditions:

Work is performed indoors and outdoors. Outdoors work is subject to temperature extremes and inclement weather conditions.

Work hours are subject to change, with overtime work as needed

Tasks may be performed on uneven, inclines, hand and soft-carpeted floors, cement structures and surfaces, on roofs or on ladders for extended periods of time.

Qualifications

Valid state driver’s license

Performs general maintenance and repair of facilities and equipment

Three years’ work experience in O&M services supporting a military base or civilian installation

Verbal and written communication skills

Basic working knowledge in carpentry, plumbing, electrical, masonry, and painting

On-Call 24-7 response with the ability to respond to base emergency within 1- hour

Preferred Qualification:

High school diploma or equivalent
